And Mike - you are getting some great input. The V10 is a workhorse for those who don't need the PSD. The Camper package is also a nice plus if one of the ones your bro is looking at has it. As far as tires goes, if the dealer won't work with you, take the truck straight to a local tire shop. They will usually cut you a deal on tradeing your factory tires. That is what I did - went with the bare minimum tires and got a good trade allowance to go with some better ATs.

Hey, anybody know what the vehicle weight is for an F-250 or F-350 Crew Cab ShortBed Four Wheel Drive with either the V-10 or a Diesel ? I'm thinking something over the 6000# personal vehicle weight for tax purposes. I would think such a vehicle would be over 6000#, but I don't know for sure. Any help or suggestions. Yeah I know you can get that "Family Truckster" @ 10,500#, but I've enjoyed my 2000 F-150 XLT Extended Cab 4WD with the 5.4. Great Truck. Thanks again

Why auto? It has a, what, 5-spd. auto or a 6-spd. Granny - O/D? I like manuals myself, I figure I'll keep driving them while I'm young and arthritis-free...

Mine weighs 7060 lbs. so you know the 4x4 will be more.

The PSD weighs about 900 lbs. and the V-10 (guessing) about 500-600?

Make sure your brother brushes his teeth good. He'll be driving around with a big wide open sh$t eating grin on his face for a long time
My truck with a full tank and my big a$$ at 275 came in on the scales at 6760. The tax break rule is for people with a business who buy vehicles of this weight. I don't think it will apply to everyday joes. I could be mistaken tho.

If it was me I would stay away from the ford gas motors for there trucks. I have a 5.4 sc and I was driving my dads new 6.0 for a week and after driving that, the 5.4 belongs in a car. It couldn't touch the 6.0. My dads old 01 v10 had nothing on this 6.0 eather. I'm selling my 02 sc and getting a f350 with the 6.0 cause that motor is unreal compared to the gassers. It has a little bit of lag on the bottom but asoon as you get above 1800rpm or so it pulls like a ****.

I debated the exact items you did...
I ended up with the diesel...although my boat was 12,ooo lbs.
The mirrors for towing are perfect.
Check out the standard hitch...Its not a class 5 its a ford class five...(class III)
I am waiting untill the bugs are worked out of the 6 before I get a 2004...I will probably wait till 05.
My only regret was not getting a power rear slider...I mean who is going to open and close that thing from the front anyhow...no one!!!
I did get the Lariat with the captains...a definate sweet upgrade as it made the cab feel sooo much more roomy
My mileage is between 14 - 20.5

You are exactly correct. Heck, I drive a SCREW and I'm a pretty big guy... I CANNOT reach the back glass while in the front seat. Hence, I installed the power rear slider myself... well worth the extra $ for that option if you ask me...

So Mike, did he get the truck?

Mike, you can order and get one from somewheres else...did you try some lots a little further away???

The 10 for $600 more would be the way to go..IMHO...
