Advice on buying an 03 F250 Crew Cab

I personally would stay away from the new 6.0. There is still plenty of time for new bugs to rear their head and why spend that kind of $$$$$ for a truck to be in the shop.
I would go with the V-10 or try to find a 7.3 if he really must have a diesel. From the sound of it, his towing needs don't require a diesel so the V-10 will definitely do.
I would stay away from the 5.4 as IMHO it is to small for this size truck. Some people will argue with me but for approx $600 more you can't beat that kind of performance upgrade.
I would also get a LS rearend. I know that lots of people aren't impressed with Fords LS but I had LS in my 97 F-150 and I thought it worked pretty well for everyday snow driving needs. I didn't need to use the 4x4 very much with good tires. My current beast doesn't have a LS rearend and it is a very noticeable difference in everyday driving in snow.
The Revo's would be a nice tire to get from the dealer vs the stock SteelTex. I currently run the BFG AT's. They are a good tire but I got the same performance in mud/snow/dirt with Cooper Discoverer AT's. The Revo's have gotten rave reviews and also come with a warranty.
I can't speak to the sliding rear window option but the only thing I wish my truck had is the new sunroof option. That would be the cat's A$$.

There is probably a reason why there are so many 5.4Ls available...
Most people are going to be happier with the V10. That is what I would get.
I also agree that the LS (while not the best) is definitely something I am happy I've got. The only other option would be to swap out the rear end with a locker but I don't know if he wants to get into that.
The 3.73 rear end will be fine for his needs.

MY opinion(I have to open with a disclaimer now)..
The 6L has just about all the bugs worked out..
There are 7.3's still availible still...
Cant lose with the V10...
Towing...
LS...
Camper Package is worthwhile(I have it)...
Any coolers, or Suspension upgrades...
Absolutely AUTOMATIC!!!!!
BIgger more agressive tires...
These are just my opinions and are subject to reveiw...
