Re-Flash?? What is this?

Silly question:
Not yet a diesel owner, but have been seeing reference to flash and reflash. What does this mean?

Theres a code revision that controls the PCM..

There is code that is the instructions on what to do to control the PCM..

As they revise the code(instructions) they name them with a 4-digit series of numbers/letters to designate what this code did...

The PCM has a flash memory module within itself, the code revision resides here, and when the code revision gets changes it is done by flashing the memory module..Hence the flashing..

Flash memory is written to by means of a whole block(bit by bit), but the whole block is rewritten(flashed)...

It is flash memory and the whole block is written.. Flashing the memory...Flash memory holds its memory when power is removed...

Oh, you were speaking of the flash, flash, flash...the camera flash...

I'm sorry I thought you were speaking of the flash memory...
