F250 Tire Recommendation....Help

I have an F250 reg cab, long bed, 4x4, auto, 4:10 gear. I need to purchase new tires. The present tires (an off brand LT265-75/16 with D load rating) were on the truck when I purchased it used. I do not tow trailers or whatever. What are opinions on the Firestone tires that come on the truck originally? Is it advisable to purchase 10 ply tires only? I would like to purchase Michelin tires but would rather not spend that much money. What is a good alternative less expensive brand? I am suprised at how rough riding this truck is and hope it gets better with new tires. Thanks for any info.

The Firestones that came stock are crap. They have very poor traction in anything other than perfect conditions.

You might try posting in the Wheels & Tires section; however, You will be overwhelmed w/ recomendations for BFG ATs and Bridgestone Revos. Some other recomendations may come out also.

Another vote for the stock Firestone Steeltex ATs being less than desireable. I have Cooper Discoverer ATs on my truck now, and have been very satisfied with them (at 33K miles). They have done very well in everything except some deep gumbo mud - where they didn't shed real well. You might also want to look at Maxxis Buckshot Mudders (not knowing how much offroading capabilities you want) as a good quality, affordable tire with a more aggressive tread.

I'll add to the Cooper Discoverer AT's. I had them on my F-150 and they were a very good tire. They handled great in the snow and rain. They rode quiet at highway speeds. I am currently running BFG's but will either go back to the Coopers or try the Bridgestone Revo's.

I have 265/75-16 10 ply BFGoodrich Commercial T/A's. Smooth ride, quiet, great read life so far. Cheaper than Michelins. I'd give them a look if you so lots of highway.
I've spent a good deal on gravel this summer too. No chipping/tearing, very pleased with them.

Nitto terra grapplers are great. I have driven on them in other trucks and they ride great, are quiet and handle well in the rain. snow i dunno bout. bfg at's are always a good bet as well.

firestone stock tires are crap as everyone else has said imo.

Just saw your post. I put on Toyo Proxes S/T size 275/60/16s. They ride great and cornering is much improved.

Get some Boggers! I know, I usually jump right on the BFG wagon, but with the power that a SuperDuty makes, the Boggers are the way to go. If you're in fairly thick mud, they sling chunks that look like doggie turds! Boggers are awesome on a HUGE truck. If you don't like that idea, then I'd say go with the BF Goodrich AT/KOs.

I have to jump on the bandwagon. BF Goodrich AT/KOs. I have 35's on my 1997. They are quite, good milage and you can't forget look good. Give this a thought. Why is there a bandwagon? There are a lot of people that have recieved good service from them.
