New here, getting an f250 soon

What's up guys. Right now I'm in the middle of trying to sell my civic and look for an 99-00 f250s The options I want are 4x4 and diesel and at least an ext. cab. My price range will have to be around $17,000 and I'll probably just end up buying it outright. I've looked in the auto trader and trucktrader found a few the way I want it and in that range but they have had right around 90-100K miles. I know the diesel if taken care of should run for a lot lot more but is there anything I should be paying close attention to when looking at these trucks? Thanks and I can't wait to get out of the civic and into the truck.

Welcome to the boards!
I can't think of anything specifically to watch out for in the SDs, except maybe little Civics parked underneath them!

The 4X4 have problems with the hubs and bearings and they are somewhat expensive to replace, but then what isn't on these trucks...

Thanks for the info guys. Have another question. I found a truck in autotrader 00 f250 4x4 T. diesel for $15,000. The only problem is that it says the 4x4 is broken. They also say it drives fine. I know "4x4 is broke" is pretty vague and I haven't called the guy up yet, but does anyone know of an estimate high and low of what it could cost to fix the 4x4?

Depends on what the problem is since, as you said, it's very vague. There's not telling what's "broken" on it.

Could be anything.

I would try to look under the hood and make sure there arent any leaks or anything like that.

Other than that, I dont think there's too much you would worry about. Maybe take it to a mechanic if possible and have them check it out. The usualy buying a used car stuff...

We have an '02 F250-SD PSD, crew cab, 4x4, and its great

Check to see if it's ever been chiped and how much it was used to tow. A high output chip can really shorten the life of a power stroke. Also, some of the power strokes developed an "Idle Knock" listen to the engine and make sure you don't hear a loud "Knock' during idle sometimes refered to as an Idle knock. Good luck, If all is well you will get to love that truck.

Had a customer fix one at Ford the other day...ESOF...module $200 part, $100 install...This is minimum...hubs and locking mechanisms...and bearings...thousands...

If you are going to buy a 4X4, learn about them..You will probably working on them...
