Diesel Mileage

I have a question out of curiosity. What kind of fuel mileage are people gettitng with the 6.0L and the 7.3L diesels? I know diesels get substantially better mileage, but I am trying to get a number here. I just bought an 04 F-150 so I have no plans to get a diesel for a little while, but next time around I may be in an F-250. I do realize that the diesels cost $5000 more. Thanks.

That can be a can of worms to some people. The average mileage I have seen from reading any and all Superduty forums I can find, seems to be 16 MPG. There will be some that claim 20+ everywhere all the time, others 10 MPG.
Hope that helps

well then, that makes it a little less clear. i was looking into the diesels thinking i could get 23+ mpg driving mostly freeway/city and hauling every once in a while. i don't care about the mileage when i am towing or hauling, but i was curious about normal freeway or city driving mileage. i guess i will just have to test drive them and see. any other opinions/experiences would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

Gettin my Hi Intensity flame suit on. You aren't going to get 23+ freeway. There might be some people who have gotten that, but it is not with a stock truck.

really? that is disappointing. even with the 6.0L? I was not expecting that with the 7.3L of course. hmm...this is all very educational. don't worry, no flames for you...yet. hehe.

Just my .02 cents worth, but the person that is saying that they get 23mpg might be right.Up here in Canada our gallons are larger, which I have heard 23 to 27mpg is not out of reach.Great web site!.

I know of someone that has his truck modded for fuel economy and is getting almost 25mpg...20mpg can be had...17 to 18 is normal...duallys and 4X4 are down to 15mpg..loaded, down to 12mpg or less...

It all depends on how you drive...
