4x4 or 4x2?

I am looking to purchase a f250 4x4 or 4x2 I do need the 4x4 but not as much as I need the fuel enconmy. I am going to get the 6.0 liter. What kind of mpg will I expect with the 4x4 vs the 4x2 and also if i get the 4x4 what can i do to improve the fuel enconmy and even improve it on the 4x2

thanks
garrett

Well

All I can tell you is, Fuel Economy be damned, after 5 bad winters spinning my tires in 8 inches of snow and going absolutely nowhere in a rear drive truck, I vowed regardless of cost my next rig would be a 4x4. I may not be using it 90% of the time, but Id rather have it just for that 10% than be sitting there spinning those wheels.

The MPG difference will be very negligble at best. If you need fuel economy your looking at the wrong truck anyhow buy a Ranger.

No mods for fuel economy aside from changing diff ratio...

Can you say 3.08's in a diesel, I know you will like 24.5mpg...

Exhaust, moduals, and intake will net around 2-3 more MPG.

Hypertech hasn't even made a chip for the 6.0 liter yet. and does k@n make air intakes for the 6.0l? I am not aware of them making them.

Have you been to www.thedieselstop.com yet? check that out first. click on the forums than click on 6.0 liter powerstroke.
I should have read it first before I bought my 2003 4+4 reg. cab
I get 18mpg

I agree. When I bought my first new truck I got a 2x4 and regretted it all the way. When I ordered this one I weighed the differences and knew I had to get the PSD and it had to be a 4x4.

Something else to consider is the truck market in your area. In my area 4x2's are signfigantly discounted as compared to 4x4's because there simply isn't the demand for them. This can have a big impact when you sell or trade down the road. From my experience the extra cost of a 4x4 more than pays for itself down the road.

This may or may not be the case in your area, but something to keep in mind.

Just my opinion.

Look, you already said 3 key words "I need it" END of story.

Fuel milage on a diesel is different from a gas engine. I'd say a 4by won't cost that many miles per gallon over a 4x2. Unlike the gassers, which get less mpg for everything you add on or every lb tow/haul. I get better mpg with my 4by diesel than I did with my gas sucking 4x2.
But hey, it's your call, just remember you won't be using any fuel when your *** is suck.
