SuperDuty 6.0 vs. 7.3

Hey, i was wondering if anyone could give me some input. Before too long i am going to be looking at a new truck. Its either a Cummins or PowerStroke, so thats sort of narrowed down. The one thing i do like about the ford is the interior room. However, the I6 Cummins is tried, true, and bulletproof. Now, i have heard bad things about the 6.0 diesel because its a new engine and has bugs, etc. Can anyone substantiate this claim? I basically wanted some input on the 7.3 vs. the 6.0 Ford diesel, maybe it will aid in my decision later on.

Thanks!

Click on this link www.thedieselstop.com Its all there. The good/bad/ugly

Problems on some early 03 & later builds yes. The fix for those problems were trial/error, slow in coming, but have slowly gotten better thru better pcm update w/fixes, incld. f.i's. etc. 04/04's seem to be doing even better, althou it got over 30 internal etc. changes. If you have no real problems regardless of brand its best thing going. Then just opposite should you have problems. JMO!

7.3L as I recall had start up problems. Althou it got a track record that I think turned out pretty good. Late 02 was last of the 7.3L. PSD. Apparently it couldnt meet the newer emission standards for diesels, hence its demise. If not for that, would it still be in production, I dont know?

Look for updates. Lots of opinions/info etc. Only 5K on mine. Has been good w/no mech. problems to date.

OT

btw...not forgetting what one reads on these public forums only represents a very, very small percentage of what's actually going on. Certainly a good indication of what's going on with some. In otherwords, a great, great many more we dont know about.

You could still get 7.3s for 03, and they are still putting them in Econolines. As for the 6.0s, I'd rather not even think of them while I'm at home.

Yes, that is correct. I think Nov of 02 was last of the 03 7.3 PSD. for the F series in USA.
Wasnt aware they were being used in any vehicle after Nov 02. As I recall 7.3 couldnt meet new emission standards for diesels, 6L PSD does, again that being in USA.

I stand corrected, just checked 2004 service manuals for econoline and it lists 6.0 but not 7.3. Haven't seen one yet though. I knew they were putting 7.3s in vans when you could no longer get them in trucks. E-350 6.0: Thats the ambulance you want to be in if time is an issue.
