My two 7.3's take 15 quarts to fill. I can do an oil change for $27.00 with a $2.99 Sears Puralator filter with Wallmart's Rotella T which runs $36.99 for six gallons.
I went from a 99 F150 to the 99 F250 psd and will never go back to gas again.
On the 99 diesel I've put 107,000 miles on it (now shows 148K) and have done,
rebuilt turbo under warranty at 55k $100
driver side window motor at 75K $85
rebuilt tranny and torque convertor at 83K $2,000
rebuilt torque convertor at 123K $966 (due to losing 9 quarts of tranny fluid going up a mountain)
new front end at 146K $1350 ball joints, u-joints, front seals, rotors, callipers, brakes, and lock outs.
truck still needs $420 to get the 4x4 to work again.
The truck has averaged 15 mpg's with the best ever at 17.7.
The Excursion just got 18.8 mpg on a 640 mile trip.
My next diesel will have a manual tranny and manual 4x4.
