V10 vs V8 in Crewcab SD's revisited.....
Ive decided i'm gonna stick with a gasser for my next truck. (as I sated in my thread below) I decided against the Hemi, and like another poster said before, the "quad" cab is very small compared to a "crew" cab. Now I have questions on the following 2 trucks. Both are slightly used crew cab super duties. One has the V10 and one has the V8...
I'm going up to a SD over a F150 due to my needs for increased hauling ability and durability. I pull as ive stated before, a 6800 lb travel trailer about 10 - 12 times a year, and a 5500lb cargo trailer for work about 12-15 times a year.
The V8 SD i'm looking at is probably a little more plush than the V10 model, but i'm a little concerned with the V8's power in a SuperDuty CrewCab....
I almost decided on going diesel, but the gas mileage was about the only "real" thing that was making me look that way, and as it turns out, that wasent enough of a reason alone to convince me to take that route....
Anyway, any input on these two gas powerplants?
Thanks..............

I've got an F-250 SD S/C 4x4 w/V-10/auto and my neighbor has the same truck except it's a V-8/auto. His mileage is worse than mine and he cannot get over how much more power that the V-10 has over his V-8. His only reason for buying the V-8 was that it was the only used SD available at the time. (His words, not mine.) He will get the V-10 next time.

5.4L....
I'm partial to the V10 (I own one ). I think it's the best all-around gas engine for a 3/4 ton pickup. Great power, great acceleration, good mpg for a 7000lb pickup and it tows light to moderate trailer weights without any trouble. Mines almost at 26K miles with no trouble at all.
If you can find a 5.4L with a 6-speed transmission and the 4.10 rear axle, give it a good hard look and take it for a test drive. I drove one with that configuration and I was very surprised at the torque in 1st thru 3rd gears. It would really throw you back in the seat! It got a little doggy on the highway after you hit about 65mph. The only downside I could see would be trouble in towing at highway speeds. I think you'd spend alot of time in lower gears to maintain speed.

Law I'm going to go againt the rest here...
I have a v8 superduty and love it.
Ford limits my combo to 7100#s towing but I have pulled more with no trouble, and for a daily driver the 8's great.
I'm all for more power but this truck is perfect for pulling a trailer once and a while and pulling itself (with full 8800#) payload whenever I start it.
45,000 miles on an 01' with only a bad rad hose clamp to bitch about.
