Which oil for 6.0L diesel?

I have a 2004 F250 with the 6.0L diesel. This is my first diesel. I have always used Pennzoil in my gasoline trucks. Is there a specific oil I need to use for the diesel engine? Thanks.

I am getting ready for my first oil change. After much thought I went with the Motorcraft 10w-30w diesel oil that it came in it. My dealer had to order it. It cost me $32.000 for 14 quarts.

Whatever you get make sure that its rated for diesel use. All oil is not created equal. This is especially important on a PSD since the injectors are fired by oil pressure. In mind I run Rotella T 15W40. Rotella T is a very good high quality diesel rated oil, and has actually gone through tests specifically for the PSD to make sure its rated for this engine. Given your location I'd be running a 15W40 oil since it probably doesn't get too cold for very long out there. Having a high viscosity oil isn't going to be much of a problem for cold starts where you're at. Out here a 10W30 may be needed for winter months so the oil isn't too thick on cold mornings. Since its not usually that cold you don't worry about it and can run the higher viscosity which will provide better wear protection much sonner than the thinner oils will. For my money I avoid the Ford stuff and run either Rotella or Delo, both are very good quality and are rated specifically for the PSD.
