....lose a soother?

Where did I say top speed is the point of measure for the new 5.4 3v. If you think it's a great engine, good for you. At least some people are pleased with an over-rated motor, less complaints to Ford. And yes it is over-rated, the whole point to this thread. Let's rate it by power and torque output then..... guess what, still is a garbage motor. You need to go hang out with other 3v lovers in denile, I'll call a spade a spade over here.

there is a factor you have completely overlooked.

It's a SuperDuty.

It's not supposed to be a daily driver or for racing on city streets. It's a commercial grade P/U.

Let's evaluate the 5.4 3v as it was meant to...

longevity
hauling/towing capacity
fuel efficiency

Now let's compare the 3v to the 2v in these areas before we deem the new engine inferior to its' predessesor.

Your crazy, the new 3V is twice the engine the 2V was.
And it's way more detuned than the 2V.

The only disadvantage is the drive by wire which gives it a slow throtal response feel

Actually, the new 3v isn't twice the motor, it's only about 10hp more than the previous 2v. That's the problem. It isn't 300hp/365lbs.

The delayed throttle response, only one of many problems with this motor. How long would it take for the TB to open fully, not much time. Believe it, a cable actuated TB would of provided minimal gain. Kind of like putting sprinkles on a turd.

J-150, I haven't overlooked anything, you've missed the point of my thread/rant. The new 3v is not 300hp/365lbs. It's a bare minimal gain over the old 2v, at best. It doesn't matter what truck this engine came in, an older generation 2v with a few mods, that is heavier, and a slower tranny, should not out-run the new kid on the block.
Also, longevity of this motor isn't really an issue to those who really expected 300hp out of this 3v. It will be traded off long before anyone would dare run this lethargic pig into the ground. If it doesn't produce the power it should to begin with, we know it will be a disappointment in hauling/towing capacity. Once you think about it, who cares about milage if it's failed everything else so far.

It's kind of funny, the 04 F-150 acceleration times are head and shoulders above the 2003. And they are on average 500lbs. heavier?
Guess they really don't have 300hp.

The 2V 5.4L is horable after 4000 rpms.

Boy I bet the 05 Mustang GT putting down 270 to 280 rwhp will get worked by the 2V 04.
Oh I forgot the 05 AUTO ran a 13.6, a stick 99+ GT has never ran that fast anywhere.

hose clamp,

May I suggest going and driving a different 05 superduty with the 3 valve just to get a second opinion. Maybe it was the particular truck you drove.

Hoseclamp,

Meaning no disrespect to your views, but you mention that your old 2v with all its mods out performs the new 3v in the '05, have you considered what would happen if you removed your mods from your 2v to stock as the 3v is. Or modify the 3v to the same mods you have on your 2v to see if that helps.

I think you would see a big difference then!

my 2 cents.
