TT guage install F250
Several experiences I had that I wanted to share on the tranny temp guage install in a
Y2K "Gasser" F250.
As this is the only gauge we Gas SD "towing" owners really need that Ford doesn't give us I only needed one spot. After carefull inspection and much crawling and looking I chose the panel of the dash just to the right of the steering wheel(see pictures). As this flat spot is visible while gear selector is in drive through the steering wheel. The only time you can't see it is when you are turning left(not good for racers!). Good thing about this spot on right side there is nothing behind it to get in the way. This location is an easy reach from inside the access panel. You will need an Angle Drill and a 2 inch hole saw for the ISSPRO guage. My regular drill was just a little too long and hit the steering wheel before it lined up so I borrowed an angle drill (see pictures). I really am please with the results and location. Looks OEM. Total cost $35.00.
Using fuse position #27 is the easiest way to get a switched 12V scource. Attaching the hot wire to the guage with a "fuse block clip" from radio shack. The #27 fuse is a 10 amp
fuse listed in your owners manual as "... Switched Customer Access". Unused anyway and
easy to jump off of with one of these clips (pictured).
Pictures(in the last one the white line in the face of the guage is flash reflection):

Yes indeed! And thanks. I am very proud of myself. I must say the *pucker* factor was great when I went to drilling. Must have measured and crawled under there a hundred times before I made the move.
As far as I am concerned a Tranny temp guage and a built in electronic brake controller should be a part of the factory towing package. It would probadly cost Ford less than a hundred dollars to do it and I would have gladly paid that.

Hi cphilip,
Absolutely excellent post, and a very clean installation job!
I'll bet you did have a bit of concern before you started in with the hole say on your dash! Glad to see you went for it, took your time, and did a nice-looking job.
Congratulations, take a bow!

One correction: In attempting to locate a instrument panel dimmer wire for the back lighting, I dicovered a 12V switched wire in the "Customer Access" bundle under the fuse panel to the right with the other four through the fire wall wires. It is a light blue wire with two red stripes. It is unused and appears to be linked to the fuse location #27. It is easier and neater to connect there rather than use the fuse block thingy from Radio Shack.
Thanks Mike. I am doubled over now!
