Question F250 vs. F350

Maybe I am stupid but I cant see a real noticable difference between the F250 SD and the F350 SD. Also on the XL their is a package that has aero halogen headlights in it, are those the common headlights in the XLT and Lariat models or are those the ugly work series square headlights.
I'm thinking of buying a superduty because i have seen a few in austin that have the 8INCH lift and huge tires and they look really nice. Would a reg. cab 4x4 with the 8inch lift and BIG A$$ tires look good too?

thanks for your help

Thumbs up

I too don't see much difference between them but there are a few. You can't get duel rear wheels in an F250. The F350 can hold more weight in the bed. And the F350 is built a bit differently underneith than the F250. And because I've got an F250 and my husband has an F350, I can tell you that they ride differently too. His is an XL reg cab, w/work boxes, tools, air compressor ect in the bed. You wont be taking any naps in his truck, that's for sure.
The sealed beam halogen headlamps come standard on XL, XLT and Lariat. The headlamps on my truck look nice, I've got no problems w/them.
As far as adding an 8" lift and Huge tires goes: I'll give you my opinion: Yes, it will look good. Great even. But you will most likely experience a great loss in power too as those big ol tires will change a lot of stuff on how that rig rides. The speedometer will be off too. You will also need to do a gear change to get your revs back up to where they belong and get back that lost power. If you can afford to buy the truck, the tires, the lift, the gear change & the speedometer fix then you might as well put a Superchips chip on it to get even more power. Now that would be some truck

Yes, if you are talking single rear wheels the only major difference is the payload accomplished with higer rated tires mostly on the f350. In fact the F250 SD SRW has a 100 pound greater trailer tow rating than the F350 SD SRW! If all things the same that is. Basically the F250 is the "tow" one and the F350 is the "load" one. Assuming Single rear wheel that is.

The assessments above are correct, but I don't think its because of the tires.. Both the F250 and F350 SRW have the same load E range tires on them from the factory..

I believe the F350 has a different spring package and I think (not sure) that the rear axle on the F350 is different. Thus giving it a higher payload capacity.. Also, there are some rear end gear ratio combos available on the F350 that are available not on the F250.

Well actually they put 235's on the F250 and 265's on the F350. The 265's have a higher load capacity per tire even though they are both E rated tires.

Yes, I think the only difference in the springs is the additon of an "overlaod spring" in the F350. Both the larger tires and the overload spring are standard on the F350 but, in fact, they can be purchased as an option on the F250 but result in no larger load rating! Go figure.

No, the rear axle is the same. Dana 60 I think? But anyway the same axle.

I hesitated to mention the overload spring because it does not come into play until guess when? You are overloaded!?!

Here is a lengthy discussion on this topic. Seems there consensus is it's tires and a little bit springs. One of them mentions a Steriling axle as common to both.

the axle is different...the 250 uses a dana 70 and the 350 uses a dana 70HD(at least in the CC LWB SRW)...the axle tube dia, and axles are different(info from a local 4x4 shop), and of course the springs and badges are different. I went with the 250 because i wanted a better ride with the shortbox supercab. I don't haul that much in the truck but i do pull a lot of boats so i wanted ride quality, turning radius, and tons of power. ;-)

The axles on the F-250 and F-350 SRW are the same. They both have sterling 10.5" axles in the rear and dana 50's in the front. If you get a F-350 DRW the rear axle gets changed to a dana 80 and the front gets ungraded to a dana 60. Out of the big three, I beleive Dodge is the only one to ever use a Dana 70.
