Am I that predictable V10 man? Good luck on you install. Let me know if you run into any problems. It's really easy. Suprised me.

Here's some more home work for you GP1200AJ. Then we will be gald to accept questions:

Thumbs up

My guage came in today so I had to install it! This is a simple job. If you can squeeze a wire crimper you're qualified. I'd just like to add a couple comments.

1) If you are planning on installing it in the lower dash, to the right of the steering column(like in cphilip's pics), make sure you posistion the guage as far to the right as you can. There is a dash support bracket that will interfere with the left mounting bolt of the guage. I had to notch mine to clear the bolt.

2) I used the illumination feed wire(brown) to power the light. The light is too bright for me. I'm either going to find the dimmer wire or install a resistor of some sort. The light also bleeds into the factory guage pod. Apparently there is a small gap between the plastic surround and the front of the gauges. The area where the tach is is illuminated slightly. There is also a reflection of the lit guage on the top of the windshield. Another reason to dim the light a bit.

3) I tried to install the sender without any type of sealer so I'd have a good ground. It would not stop leaking. I ended up using 3-4 wraps of Tefflon tape. I only taped the upper half of the sender so the bare bottom half would ground. It worked.

I was able to use my regular drill with the hole saw by turning the steering wheel so the large opening on the top was on the side. Drill fit through there no problem.

cphilip,

I just want to say thanks for posting your idea. I owe you a cold one.

I'm (hopefully) Going to install mine tomarrow. I'm going to use a POD instead of drilling my dash(I kinda like the way the pods look on the driverside cab support.) hopefully my parts dealer has the pod in stock, i know he has the guage.

Thanks again for all the help

Good to hear V10 Man! I am always up for a Cold one.

Good advice on that positioning thing. I guess I just got lucky and missed it. But I looked and you are right I was very close to that support. Another 1/8 inch and I would have had the same problem. You will save someone else a problem from that post. Yep I have never had any luck preventing leaks without something in there. Let us know you temps when you start working with it.

I am still debating the illumination thing myself. I presently am just taking it from a 12V switched source. I am also looking at replacing the yellow/white bulb that came with it with a green bulb or bulb cover. To better match OEM green guages and I think it will tone it down as well. You might want to think about trying that first. But if not, there are several ways to get to the dimmer switch wire.

GP1200AJ,
I had to install mine on the a-pillar - I just couldn't force myself to cut a hole in my dash (I'd probably mess it up). I love the location. Good luck!

I was at the local Auto Zone and saw some colored bulbs. I might try a blue one. I need to take out the clear one and match it up. I was also thinking about finding the dimmer wire that goes to the radio and tappin into that.

Driving around town, with 105 + degree days, I've seen the temp move up to the 150's. Tis past weekend, I took a trip to the mountains and the temp stayed at 140 or lower. I'll be towing my TT over the 4th. I'm really curious to see what it does then.

I found the Green guage bulbs at Wally Mart Saturday. 194G made by GE. A two pack was $2.97. I'll let you know how they do.

The DIS site has a good explanition of how to get to the dimmer wire in the light switch. I also heard it ran right by the customer access bundle in the Super Duties, I guess going to the Radio. To make matters confusing it is supposed to be a blue wire with red stripe if I remember correctly. Similar to the 12V switched wire in the bundle.

Question

OK Guys, I installed the guage(very simple install). Now I am wondering what your getting for temps. Mine averages 140 to 150 lite. This past weekend I pulled my 5er and jetskis,(I'm guessing a little under 10,000 pounds) outside temp was around 85 and the tranny temp was 170 on the flats and 180 or a little higher on the bigger hills. Is this normal?

Thanks

AJ

Yes that is about normal. The Shop Manual say the normal operating temperture for the 4R70W and the 4R100 is 140 to 170 degree's as that is when they suggest you check the fluid at those temps. High's I have seen so far has been 170 or so towing. Regular 140 to 150 just like you are seeing

By the way I am close to finishing my install of a 12V Cooler Fan on my OEM Auxiliary Tranny cooler in my F250SD. Here are some pictures of that process so far:
