Talking Transmission Cooler Installed

I finally installed a cooler in my truck last night. It was a very simple install (kinda fun too)! It is a B&M Supercooler and the total install took less than 90 minutes - I mean reading instructions all the way through figuring out where to install it and cleaning up my bloody knuckles.

We're taking truck an 10,000# trailer on trip over two passes in Washington so I can't wait to see how the temperature acts while pulling. I've done a couple "control" trips before cooler install so will have a good idea how good is really is.

fyi, I purchased a B&M Supercooler #70264 (24,000#) from Summit for $49.95 on Monday and on Thursday it arrived! Couldn't wait so when I got home immediately got going and it went swell.

Anyone else done this yet and have you noticed anything dramatic?

Wink

Got back from "The Test" trip last night and had a good experience. The trip was 140 miles going over 3 mountain passes in Washington; Tiger Mountain, Snoqualmie Pass and Bluet Pass. The outside temp was about 75 over the first two passes and 75-80 over Bluet. (this was about 20 deg warmer than my last trip).

Started out at 140-150 tranny temp then going into the short but steep pull over Tiger Mt temp went to 210 deg. Back down hill and cooled to 185. Then the two passes I were coming which were the ones in which I really wanted to check temps and recorded 230 on both. They are looonnngger pulls than the first and climb from about 500' elev to a little over 3,000'. The rest of the time temps stayed between 160 and 200 depending on if I was in 3rd or OD. (runs cooler in OD!)

Oh, forgot to mention, this was pulling 10,000 lb 5th wheel (total GCVW was 16,400#).

So, I guess the $50 investment in aux cooler has convinced me they really work well.
see ya'

Hey F250NUT, sounds great!

One thing you might be interested in that we discovered over at Ford-Diesel.com. Apparently Ford put just an external (auxiliary type)Tranny cooler and no primary (inside the radiator) cooler in the 99 and very early 2000's. Then they changed and put both in. Mine has both. Others only have the external one but all later 2000's and up have both. We (the ones with both) are also seeing lower temps from the get go. 140 to 150 regularly and my highest towing temp so far is 170. No wonder they went back to this. Interesting huh?

By the way I am close to finishing my fan install on my OEM Auxiliary cooler Here's the pictures so far:

Exclamation

Thanks for the info! If I remember, you got the 8" fan from JEGS?? Let us know when installation is complete and then how cool the temps get.

BTW, how much weight do you pull?

Actually I got the 8" Perma-Cool from Summit for $59.95. Jegs and Perma-Cool themselves wanted $90 something for it!

I tow a 24 foot Fleetwood Prowler Lite weighing at about 5000 pounds as travels with no water in the tanks. Not too too big.

Wasn't able to finish last night. Got home a little late and by the time the truck cooled off it came up a storm and I lost daylight. I'm so close now I can hardly stand it. Try agian tonight. Didn't drive the truck today so it will be waiting on me ready when I get home. Assuming we don't get another storm.

But then again we really do need the rain...
