Go to another dealership that knows what they are talking about..
Yes, you can get an 00' F250 5.4L 5sp.
The only 'question' is which rear end you can get.. The choices show 3.73, 4.10, and 4.10LS. (basically you cant get a 3.73LS if you get the 5sp).
One can only speculate why a dealership would tell you wrong information..
I also like the SD over the F150 for many reasons, mostly because of its bigger interior and exterior.
Performance wise, the F250 with the 5.4L would probably be similar to the F150 with the 4.6 5sp.. Remember, the SD weighs a 1000lbs more..

I have been told that it's not possible to order this drivetrain in CA. in either a F150 or SD 250. Is this true ? I know that it's possible to order the F150 with a 4.6 and a 5 speed. But I would really like the bigger V8. I don't want an automatic tranny just my preference. Any information appreciated.

Oh, I just re-check edmunds. It appears your dealer IS RIGHT.
Feature 44E Tranny 4SP Auto: Required in CA
I'm very happy with the performance. Sure, its not a V10 but I'm not holding up traffic either.
Its interesting that in CA they require you to get the Auto tranny with the 5.4L which in this truck costs you 1 or 2 MPGs on average.
geez, sorry about the bad information earlier.
