Post Here is my lifted SuperDuty

This my 2K F-250 SD. It is lifted 6", and rides on 35" BFG ATs on 16" Eagle 589 wheels.
It's still waiting for a Borla exaust kit, tinted windows, Bushwacker flares, and 4.30 gears.What does everyboy else have their SuperDutys geared at? Mine still has plenty of towing power with the 3.73 gears, which really suprised me since I got much bigger tires.

Case15,

That's a beautiful looking truck. If it tows your stuff OK with the larger tires, leave the gearing as is...

My current truck has 3.73 gears with 35s on it. It does OK for towing, but if you plan on towing anything sizeable you will want the 4.30s. I pull a boat that wieghs about 3500 lbs and it does fine, but anything more than that and the 4.30s are superior.

Last month I ordered a new 2001 with 4.30s. It will be a similar setup with 35s.

So far all I've towed with my truck is my 24 boat, which weighs about 3500, and it tows it fine, but I plan towing heavier stuff so thats why I'm gonna re gear.I also take it offroad a lot, and want to make sure I'm gonna have enough bottom end muscle.Anybody know how much its gonna cost to regear my truck?thanks for the comments.

You will probably be spending about $1200. for a 4x4 regear (front and rear differentials).

To all the lifted SuperDuty owners out there, I have a question.

My 2000 SuperDuty has the 5.4 gasser and 4.10's. Currently, I am running stock suspension and tires, but would like to lift it. I notice that you have said that re-gearing from 3.73's to 4.30's can give better performance with 35's, my question is this; (from someone who doesn't understand gearing very well) Will my 4.10's, which numerically seem to me to be between 3.73's and 4.30's give decent performance? Right now I am happy with the V-8, but I am afraid that without the significant torque numbers of the PSD, I will be losing A LOT of performance...

Thanks!

IKE, I would recommend changing the gears to
compensate at least enough so that you don't
have to recalibrate the speedo (on the 5.4
at least)--which would be 4.534 axle ratio
[fyi: stock tire/new tire = stock gear/n =>
n = stock gear * new tire / stock tire =>
4.534 = 4.1 * 35 / 31.649 ]
However, I don't think there are exactly
ring and pinion ratios of 4.534 in the
aftermarket for the our axle, but there are
4.56 gears.

I think that 4.1 and 4.3 for the stock 5.4 v8
are just right. But with a change a tire
size that much, I know i've experience a big
power loss on another truck. So IMHO, i
really recommend the regearing. And maybe
even some mild performance upgrades like
cat-back exhaust (borla, etc), air filter,
chip.. I have a V10 with 4.3 and I still
had it changed to 4.56 with 35" tires (still
in the shop for other mods)

In fact, even when you do regear to exactly
compensate numerically (i.e. the same
"effective ratio"), there's still some loss
at the wheels, most noticeable at upper rpms,
i presume due to the larger outward mass...
which is why i mentioned the performance mods i guess u can also overgear it
(underdrive) like to 4.88 (recommended only
if you decide to do the intake/exhaust mods
as well) ..but it'll feel a little "revvy"
on the freeway though..

btw, I also bought my SuperDuty as my own
graduation gift

I have 3.73 gears, and with 35s, it has plenty of power, but mine is the V10.Since you have lower gears, you will probably be able to turn 35s no problem, but if you plan on doing heavy towing, you might want to regear, that's why I'm regearing my truck.
Those clear lenses, and billet grill look sweet on your truck.

I like the lift too. Bet you ride WAY above the traffic!!! (I personally don't understand why people lower their trucks when a lifted one looks sooooo much better but then with a lowered one, you don't need a ladder to get in)

jimveta: They do make excellant graduation presents don't they?? Thanks for all the excellent info! (you too Case15, and thanks for the compliment!!!!)

My lift is a little ways off yet, as these beasts are, as we all well know, rather pricey, although very much worth it!
Being nearly broke allows more time for planning, right? (help me here, I'm really trying to justify not going into debt for a bigger truck! Maybe I just need to forego these "small" trucks and buy a Kenworth!!! (...I wonder if Superlift makes a lift for that?) Oh well, just dreaming I guess..

I hope everyone enjoys the remainder of this weekend!
