Question Mileage with a 5.4L

To all,
I have a 1999 F-250 Superduty with the 5.4 V8 and my gas mileage is around 10 mpg. Anyone out there getting the same numbers?

Also, I was thinking about adding a supercharger in the near future. What will the the affects (pros or cons) be for towing and on gas mileage? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks.

My husband has a 97 F350 w/the older V8engine in it. It gets absolutly the worst milage, he refuses to even check it. But on the bright side, no matter how baddly he abuses that truck, the engine always gets him there. Runs like a dream.
Since you've got the 5.4 engine, try posting your supercharger question in the engine section.

Cool

I only have about 4k on my 2001 4x4 manual crew shorty and have been getting just a hair under 12. Mind you this is with daily 10-15min warmups(I hate scraping frost) and quite a bit of running in 4x4. Before the snow hit I had a tank 1/2hwy and 1/2 city at about 13.5mpg.

I get a consistently 15 mixed driving. 19 unloaded highway and 11-12 towing my 24 foot TT.

Your 4X4 is hurting your mileage and I wonder what rear end ratio you have. Mine is 3.73 which helps the mileage out. 4.10's would hurt you if you have them but they would help with towing so its a trade off I guess.

Cool

I didn't fill out my profile until after I posted the last message. I do have the 4.10 rear. I think i will see 14-15mpg highway in the summer. The 4.10 costs me, the crewcab costs me and the 4wd costs me. With it snowing every other day here, the hubs have been locked in for the last month and a half. So Im sure thats costing me as well. I didn't buy this for the fuel economy!

You guys with the V-8 should have sprung for the bigger V-10! I'm doing better than some of you with the truck shown in my signature. I thought the V-8 would do better than that! I consistently get about 11 in the city and between 13 and 15 on the open highway, depending on how I drive and what I'm pulling.

I have a 2000 F350 SD with the same 5.4 with 4.10's and on a trip I'm getting 16 mpg...

I believe if you add a supercharger and tow with your truck your MPG will start with a decimal point.

To all,
Since my original post, I have been tracking my mileage more accurately. It's a little better, however nothing to brag about.
