01 PSD road trip
Buddy just got his platinum edition crew cab 4x4 lariat PSD....nice truck inside, but was horrified by his mileage....he got 12.5 MPG on a 175 one way trip...true he was running 80 the whole way but heck i got almost as good as that with my gasser and 35's....the PSD also seemed gutless on passes, it took a while to gain momentum to pass anyone...I was thinking about getting back into an F350 PSD, but i am not so sure anymore...a chip would defintely have to be a must..

Hi 4X4,
Sounds like he's got a nice truck there, a PSD Lariat is a pricey vehicle!
Yes, a Superchip will help not only with more power (60 hp & 115 lbs./ft.) but also improve the mileage on those PSD's as well. If your friend is interested, we'll be happy to extend our F-150 Online discount to him.
One quick thought, if this is a brand new vehicle, and it sounds like it is, then it usually takes a few thousand miles for new motors to fully loosen up and make their rated power & get their best fuel mileage, so your friend's might improve a bit as he accumulates the next few thousand miles. It won't be a lot, but every little bit helps, just a thought you might want to pass along to him if he isn't aware...........
Good luck!

i get 17 to 20 mpg driving around Houston, with the AC on high
it sounds like he has something wrong his. We have 4 F-250 SD PSD's and none of them have any problems passing other cars

the platinum edition is really nice inside but i am not crazy about the color scheme or the lowrider visor with the lights in it...

A lot of people with the PSD see widely varing mpg. Some are chipped, some are manuals. There have also been a couple of serveys done on the diesel board about milage. The best I can figure out is speed really does affect milage. I've found that when I'm towing my 30' travel trailer (loaded to the brim) I get the best milage going about 67mph. Now in those states where they keep you at 55, my milage goes into the sewer. Same goes for if I go faster than 70mph. If I'm not towing, then anywhere around 67-74mph gives me the best milage. Tell your friend to try to keep the rpm's around 2000 and see if his milage doesn't improve. I added a Superchip to mine to give it that added punch for passing and getting up hills.
