SD has a longer wheel base, probably 800 lbs. heavier--different suspensions --Heavy duty, I think, still has the I beam, different brakes, longer wheelbase, etc. I do know that with my ld, 5.4, my trailer towing weight is about 800 lbs more than the SD. With the new 250ld (now called 150 with 7700 lb pkg, the transmission is smaller (and weaker) than in the SD. My '97 has the E4OD, no longer available with the F 150, 5.4 engine.

Eight lug wheels on the SD, 7 on the LD (7700), 8800 GVWR on the SD, 7700 on the LD. Just a couple more things I can think of right now.
Good point about the 4R100 not available in the 7700 anymore.

I can't remember all the differences, but no more F-250ld, now called F-150/7700 pkg, Mine ('97) had heavier frame, 7 bolt wheels, larger differential, master cylinder, and brakes, rides about 1 inch higher. If you're going to pull something heavy--I'd get the SD, with a larger engine, and the heavier 4R100 trans that is no longer available in the F 150. When I bought mine I had a 1/2 ton 6 cyl F-150 which had a hard time pulling my pontoon boat--Thought this truck would be all I would ever need ('97-F-250, 5.4/3.73ld, SC, XLT), then a year later--this 5th wheel. I'm looking at a F-350 SC, V-10, now

Y2K 7700 4x4: I can't find any figures for gear ratios on the 7700F150. But the SD has different gear ratios depending on which transmission you get: M5HD 5speed manual, M6HD 6speed manual diesel, 4R100 4speed automatic. The two manual transmissions are fairly close to each other's ratios with the exception of the 6 speed having an extra gear. Low(diesel) has a ratio of 5.79 and reverse of 5.23. 1st(5speed manual) is 5.72 and reverse of 5.24 So they are very close to each other. The automatic has 1st at a ratio of 2.71 and reverse at 2.18 Hopefully someone else will have the figures for the 7700F150's transmission

MJ,
I too have been searching for the 7lug wheels. So far I have found that American Racing builds one wheel, all others have been discontinued.
Weld racing has a few to choose from but not much and they are alittle pricy. If you call Weld directly they will run you throught the options. They are the only ones I have talked to so far who really seem to understands our 7 lug monsters.
