I'm trying despaterately to figure out if the small v8 is an option with the f250. I want the four full doors with the crew cab option, the real size (read 6.5' box, not the 5' midget box) but i'm not pulling horses, so a 5.4 with low gearing will do the trick, or something comparable. any info would be great.
thanks

On the F250 the 5.4 V8 5-speed manual OD is standard
I've never driven the manual 5-speed but I've heard from a few that have them, that they're really nice. The gearing on the manual 5-speed is much better than the automatic, with a 1st @ 5.72 and up to 5th at 0.76 Reverse is 5.24 (These numbers are very close to my 6-speed diesel) If you're interested in the auto the numbers are not as good but plenty of people still use these to pull with. 1st @ 2.71 up to 4th @ 0.71 with reverse being 2.18 (personally for towing, I'd rather have the manual)

Finally gauges!!: Pyrometer & Boost on the A-Pillar mount

Depending on how much you are planning to tow, the 5.4 will be fine. I have the auto in mine, and regularly tow about 3,000# through the Ozark Mountains with no problems. If you will be towing much more, you might want to look at the V10.

I have a F250 Crew Cab with the 8' bed and the 5.4L V8. I went with the automatic (my first ever automatic) and the 4.10LS in the rear.
I only have about 1700 miles on the truck so far, but I can tell you that I have no complaints with the engine.
I don't plan to tow much with this truck, and it has more than enough power to move its own weight around, even up the adirondack mountains.
Hope this helps.

I have a 01 F-250 CC 4X4 5.4L Auto and tow a trailer daily for my buss. I weighed the whole thing today at 15,000lbs. and it pulled just fine. I even got the same mileage as pulling the same trailer empty at 65-70 mph so I was pretty happy about that. 13.5mpg is not bad pulling that much weight.
