Gas Mileage Question

I have a friend who put a chip in his diesel and he now gets 30 miles to the gallon from a previous 22mi/g. I have a v10 and was wondering if anyone knew if the same may happen to my truck?? Any help would be great!

No chance. You'll be lucky to get a 2mpg improvement, but probably won't even see that.

PS- I've NEVER heard of someone getting 30 mpg with ANY brand diesel, regardless of the mods. Seems like 22 or so is the highest I've heard anyone boast about. Your buddy may be exaggerating somewhat...

If your friend has a PSD I HIGHLY HIGHLY doubt that he was getting 22mpg stock, let alone 30mpg with a chip. If he was he would be the first. Only a very small handful of PSDs will break the 20mpg mark stock, and even fewer will break the 20mpg mark when chipped. My guess is that he is using his overhead computer to calculate his mileage. They aren't accurate at all stock, and get really funky after a chip goes in. The ONLY way to accurately figure mileage is to fill the tank till you see LIQUID diesel in the filler neck then on the next fillup do the same. This will give you the exact amount of diesel used and will give you an accurate reading. Either your friend isn't that bright or he's blowing smoke up your ***. But to your question no it won't give you mileage gains. Diesels are a whole different animal especially when chipped. At most on yours I would say half to maybe 1mpg difference on a good day. Gassers don't respond all that well to chips, where diesels come alive when you put a good one on.
