Gas mileage for your diesel...
...looking to replace my 6.0L Chevy 2500 with a turbo diesel Regular Cab F250 since my truck gets 12mpg on average on the interstate (70 miles round trip to work each day) thus it's sucking down the gas. So what kind of mileage are you guys getting in your Regular Cab trucks in stock form and modified form. Also how reliable are the Ford diesels? Thanks!

Keep the revs below 2000 rpm, in other words out of the turbo and I would get 22-24 in town or on the highway. Cruise at 85mph of the highway and watch it drop to 15-16mpg.

Run 70-75 and like colorado said keep it below or right at 2000 rpm will get its best milage i get 18 on the highway. maybe 14 in town. with an 02 crewcab 4x4 though. maybe a regular cab would get better due to less weight. At least it gets better than my f-150 with a 4.6L in it!

I have a '99 F250 superduty crew cab 4x4 with the 7.3L PSD. The truck has 3.73's in the rear end. It has some mods to the exhaust and intake as well as a 3 position chip and stock.
I run my truck under 2000 rpm at all times and try not to goose it as I run with the highest power setting chip (80 hp) most of the time. She runs hot when I launch it off the line, a dark cloud of exhaust off the line darkens most drivers view.
All that said, I check my fuel mileage at every fill, which is usually once a week. At each fill, I add about 2 or 3 oz of canola oil based fuel conditioner I put on about 500 or so miles every week. My mileage has been as low as 14.5 mpg before I put the chip in and is now a consistent 18.5 to 19 mpg, with it's highest point at 19.9.
I've owned the truck since March 2005 and it currently has 278000 km on it or approx 172,800 mi.
I love my truck and it's a blast to drive. I haven't found anything yet that I can't pull, including a loaded 5 ton delivery truck that was broke down.
I'd love to add a pic of it here, but I can't seem to get that done. If anyone can help me with that, it would be most appreciated.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth. Enjoy it if you buy it, they're a blast.

I have a 2000 F350 RC 4x4 auto w/3.73 gears, stock size tires, no bed topper. Tymar intake, 4" exhaust, 4 position chip set on 120 h/p. I just got back from a 3300 mile trip, I set the cruise at 85mph for most of the way and I got only 14mpg. That is running about 2600 rpm.
Another trip of highway driving (5 tank fulls) I averaged 20-21 mpg and I kept the rpm's just below 2000, which is about 68mph. No fuel additives either. I get a consistant 15 mpg in the city.

3:73 are what you get with a diesel in an F250 or F350 unless it's a DRW which then you get a choice.
2000 RPM's is kind of a magic mark. I can get 20-22 HWY only, running 60-65 MPH. Over all HWY would be about 20 on a pretty good day. Overall I mean, starting, stopping, slowing etc. 22-24 would be running along, reset overhead adn see 22-25 MPG steadily, until you start making stops or hit good grades.
18-19 is easy on the HWY and that's even with my big *** Excursion. 13-14 MPG towing 7500#.
