Gained F350 Diesel

I recently got rid of my F150 SuperCrew and purchased an 06 F350 SRW 4x4 King Ranch with a 6.0L Diesel. Anything about these trucks I should know before I start towing?

YES... scroll back up one to the King Ranch forum and do a search on "conditioning"... You're going to be spending some time with those seats to keep them looking good!

Seriously, you need to use some different leather care products for the Castano leather. my presonal preference is LeatherMaster. Lots of good info in the KR forum and congrats on the KR!

Congratulations. I got my KR the end of August. Also a 2006, etc, etc. but couldn't justify a 4X4. Used to clock watch to go home, now I clock watch to go drive the truck.

Congrats on moving up to a real truck!

Some say to hold off on towing right away, and give a few hundred miles of mixed driving to break er in.

PUT DIESEL IN IT! Don't laugh or say it won't happen, cuz it does. Specially in the morning when you are tired and it is dark. A real easy way to part with a large chunk of $$$

Don't forget you have a trailer behind you while towing. With the mighty powerstroke up front, easy to think you are just rollin along empty...

Hahaha. At least the truck is real. Needs a 7.3 though - before you start towing. . You wont like the low end of the 6.0.

Sorry :P.

You dont need to do anything before you start towing. Except get a 5th wheel if you dont already have one.

The 6.0 is a good motor though. Nice and quiet and doesnt blow much smoke if any at all. My 7.3 blew some smoke and it was one of the LESS smoky diesels. At least in 1998.

Read the owners manual....seriously.

I dont' know what you're towing, but don't listen to the 7.3 guys. A 7.3 might get you moving .456 seconds quicker, by my the time they turn to laugh, you'll be showing them your tailgate and they'll be crying.

Just kidding guys. LOL

Thanks. I am trying to get used to the Diesel it's totally different than the Gas motor. However, I got into it getting onto the interstate and it was Surprisingly quick. I got up to 85 before I knew it. AND it sounded like a jet engine with the whistle noise. Sorry just had to share my first diesel experiences.

When I am just driving around It's hard to get used to the knocking noise of the diesel. Sounds like it's gunna blow up any minute. (Of course if it was a gas motor sounding like that.....).

I have only had the truck for 4 days and I like the Diesel better than gas already!!!
Of course The F-350 size has alot to do with it too!!

MikeF150,
Thanks I will look into proper care of those nice seats.

I think the more you drive it, the more you'll like it. Check this site also, lots of good information on diesels. I'm having a Sportmaster Rollup Tonneau installed tomorrow. Also, one thing I'm going to try on my next tank is 16 oz of Diesel Kleen. I figure roughly that 16 oz in 38 gallons will increase the cetane rating between 4 and 5 points. I'll let you know how it works.

Any thing to improve the milage - tow boss is outstanding for power (4:30 gears), but dang, step on it a bit, and watch the gage go down.
