Why is diesel so high?

Light diesel trucks barely make a dent in the amount of diesel fuel used. Oil companys realized that higher diesel prices can just be passed on by the transportation companys to the consumer so it makes finanical sense to increase the price for more profit. Side effect is that those of us with light diesel trucks have to eat that cost.

They ARE the same but heating oil has a die in it. It's illegal to run heating oil in a diesel truck, if you get caught you get a big fine.
That being said, my uncle ran heating oil in his diesel volx and never had a problem.
BTW: Diesel costs more more because of taxes. Diesel pollutes more than gas so states keep raising the taxes on it to please the tree huggers.

It is crazy that diesel is more than regular 87 octane gas, even though it is a waste type product that is easier to refine/blend than gas and used to be way cheaper than gas.
Basically Crude Prices heading to around $70. Every increase in the cost of crude equates to an increase in gas and diesel costs.
Threat of santions against Iran currently are driving crude prices up.
China and other Asian countries consuming more oil.
US Refining capacities are at all time high. Refineries in South Louisiana and Mississippi are still off line due to Hurricane Katrina, removing more supply from the market.
Government Mandates on Sulfur Content, which refiners are installing units/processes to lower sulfur contents.
IMO seems like the laws of supply and demand from economics, kinda like the oil crisis of the 70's this time they are not limiting supply in a sense of a shortage with gas lines. You are paying more as well as financing the sulfur content upgrades for the oil companies and refineries to meet government regs.
BioDiesel is an alternative, though it is hard too find as way as a little more expensive than regular diesel. Willie Nelson has a truck stop in Dallas that sells it. www.biowillie.org

The heating oil/season thing is crap and isn't holding true, at least this year. Diesel has actually dropped and stabilized when it should have been going up since this "season" started.
It's held firm around here for 1-2 months now.....but it's still higher than premium gas even with gas prices jumping again recently. Premium is just now started to hit within $.05 to $.15 less thann diesel.
Whatever it is, it sucks......

Almost had heart failure last night. Actually saw premium ($2.44) for more than diesel ($2.39) at a Citco Station. The Exxon across the street was the same ($2.44) for both premium and diesel. Guess I had best get my eyes checked today. Getting more in range, but still not where it should be.
