Engine blown on 2004 SD 250

Has anyone had any engine issues from their 250 SD. My father-in-law's 250 just blew up with 27K on it. It had been losing power for some time and the dealer never could find anyting wrong (nothing unusual). Also when he would get on it and left off the gas...the engine/turbo would make some kinda awful noise...Dealership said that was normal for the diesels. Does anyone else have this problem.

Thanks.

Mine also makes a noise when I let off it sometimes, kinda hard to describe, almost a cackle of sorts, let us know what you find out.

Care to expand on your definition of "blown up"? In my definition I see a ball of fire, truck pieces flying through the air, women and children running screaming.

The earlier 6.0 Powerstrokes had a problem with diesel fuel filling up the crankcases. Some had turbo problems, some had computer problems. In general, most of them just had problems. Ford never should have strayed from the trusty 7.3

I think the newer trucks are less prone to problems, but I still wouldn't buy one. Ford is coming out with yet another new engine for 07.
