front locking hubs for idiots :-)
Brother just purchased an 06' F250 Ext. cab V8 FX4.....really nice.....we're trying to figure out why it has front locking hubs AND an on the fly 4X4 switch inside the cab. Like I said, locking hubs 101. My old 88' Bronco II had manual locking hubs and I had to get out of the truck in the worst weather to lock the front wheels before I could go into 4wheel drive.....this F250 is a different system, right????? I mean, here we are 18 years later...................
partial 4X4 to true 4X4????????????
thanks

You've always been able to get ESOF and manual hubs. But thats besides the point. The SD line since 99 has and an auto position and a lock position on the hubs. The auto position is locked via a vacuum line and is prone to failure all the time. The lock position locks in the front end manually. Ford changed the hubs some for the 05/06 models, but at least on the 99-04 trucks they would get very hard to turn, hence alot of people replaced them with Warn hubs. For him, just leave it in the auto and use the ESOF in the dash.
