Is it true that you can avoid sales tax by going out of state to purchase a vehicle?

 

If that state doesn't have sales tax...

Still gonna have to pay taxes when you register in your state though???

 

in a way yes, but when you register it you will pay your state sales tax then.
When i moved from TX to PA i bought a trailer and didn't pay the TX sales tax of 7% but when i registered here i paid the PA 6%. you only pay the difference if any, and only if its been bought within the last 6 months. Every state is different so check with your state DOT

 

In DE we have no sales tax on purchases but when i bought my truck they charged 2.25% sales tax for some reason but thats better then 6 or 8%

 

I live in Georgia, but I bought my truck in Alabama. Didn't have to pay sales tax, which I thought was cool. But. I got burned when I had to pay tax on the purchase price (7% of $28K or so) in my county for registering in Georgia. Not cool.
