5.4 in a F250
I am looking at a 2001 F250 super duty 4x4 ext. cab with 6 foot box. It has the 5.4 in it what I was looking for. I will be towing a open unitly trailer that weights about 6-8000 pounds wet. This will be only about 4 times in the summer, with much smallers loads about 3000 pounds through the summer too. Other then that the truck with be used to get to work and back. What I want to known Does 5.4 have eoungh power to do this ( I think so but just seen what you guys have to say)
Thanks agian guys

Yes
It'll do the job. Check to see what gears it has. 4.10's or 4.30's would probably give you better pulling power than 3.73's (not sure what's available on the 5.4 equipped trucks).
Many would probably recommend that you go with the 6.8 V10 or a diesel for towing in a super duty since it's such a heavy truck to begin with. I pulled a 7,000 lb trailer with a 5.4 (in a F150) and it did the job, but I definately wouldn't have won any races, especially uphill!

This thread was just below yours https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=224035
4.10 is as deep as you can get factory, the 4.30s are a V10 option only.

What does the v10 compare to the 5.4 for gas milage. I will only be pulling the trailers in the summer only. the rest of the time i will be using the truck to get to work and back (4 miles one way). And how much more does a f250 weight then a 150,both 4x4 ext.cab short box. ( 5.4 in both)

I was doing the same comparison you were when I had my F150. The F150 a I recall is about 5000-5500lb. The F250 is going to be in the 7000-7500lb range with that body configuration. I have not done any long distance mileage trips on either of those to compare them, so I'm going off of reports of what others are getting for mpgs. Typically I've seen people post from 1-5pmg less with a V10 compared to a similar 5.4L engine. Most seem to be closer to 3-4mpg less. The thing is though, is when you start pulling the V10 mileage won't drop as much. So when you throw a trailer in the mix the gap gets smaller.
