1997 F250 Heavy Duty
Does anyone know I could get a service and repair manual or a shop manual for a 1997 F250 H/D. I have been looking everywere and can not find anything on this truck. They have light duty but in 97 they are very differant including body style. The 150 and 250 are new body style and the 250 H/D is the old style.

You'll want to find one for a 97 if you can. If your truck is a CA truck then there were alot of changes made to them in that year. If this is a gas truck then anything from 92-97 will work just fine. If its a diesel you'll need 94.5-97. If you haven't already looked on ebay check there. You should be able to find a CD.

the 1997 F250 and F350 are the old body style (same as 92-96 F150) and use the old pushrod gas V8's (302, 351, 460) and 300-6 engines.
they were identical to the 1996 model except for the "super duty" or "heavy duty" (which ever one it was) moniker and badging
1999 was the first year for the new body style and overhead cam engines
1997 and 1998 (maybe 1999 too, when did they stop?) they made an F250 "light duty" (it wasnt called this) which was the same body style as the F150
they were basically a joke as far as a real work truck is concerned, as it was based completely on the F150 platform with stiffer springs and a different rear axle
I am not sure how many years they made this faux F250, they did not sell many of them from what I gather, because you never saw many of them

Yup. In 97 they had a 250 and a 250 H/D. The 250 was like the 150 (Newer body style). That's why I bought the H/D at the time. I had not warmed up to the new body style yet and that was one of the only older style I could get. I really did not need a truck that heavy at the time. It has created some problems over the years. Anytime I buy a part, right down to windshield wipers (Just went throught this) I have to make sure it is made for the 250 H/D. Otherwise it won't fit the truck. And some parts manufacturers don't list the change. I can't tell you how many times I have had to explain this to a parts guy. It's a major pain. First they look at you like you are trying to brag or something. Then I have to go through the whole story. Then when they went from H/D to super duty that started a whole other thing. You tell them H/D and they correct you by saying it's called super duty. Like after 9 years I don't know what it says on the side of my truck. I will never by another truck that is the first or last year of a major change.
