Future F350 chassis cab purchase engine???

Ok so I'm starting to get some info and pricing on a F350 2wd reg cab SWB (141") duallie chassis cab. I will be fitting it with a 8-9' flatbed/platform with the gooseneck option on the back, approx 900-1200lbs depending on model.

As far as hauling goes, I will have two job boxes bolted down and probably two underbody storage boxes as well. I will be carrying misc flooring materials and the occasional misc construction materials as well.

As far as towing goes, I have a small 5x10 utility trailer and possibly will be purchasing a gooseneck dump trailer in the future (approx in the 12' range).

Now my questions are concerning the engine, is the extra money for the diesel worth it? First off I can't stand the diesel fumes and the rattling noise it produces, plus right now diesel is 30 cents more than gas, so I'm leaning towards the V10. 75% of the vehicles usage will be in hauling not towing and the average round trip milage will be in the 30 mile range. And according to Ford the diesel is only rated for 500lbs more payload capacity than the V10. I understand the diesel has more torque and all that, but right now I'm getting by using a F150 4.6l and have no problems (when loads get too heavy, I have them delivered).

This will be used for work purposes only, will I be throwing away good money by going with the diesel?

Go test drive a diesel and see what you think. They are nice, but not for everyone.

I drove around to a few dealerships today and this was the only quote that any of them gave me.

Its for a '06 4x2 5.4 6spd reg cab chassis 141". The quoted price of $25,995 includes rebates and 9' gooseneck platform bed. The price is before any type of negotiation. Some of the platforms (flatbed) start around $3,000 installed. Do you guys think this is a decent price??

I've checked with half of the Ford dealers in town (4 out of 8 dealers) and they are all running about the same, give or take a few hundred bucks.

I went and shopped some Chevy HD's today and they're running about $1500 more than the Fords. Although I did find a new '05 chevy 3500 502c.i. allison auto w/ a 12' bed for $22,500.
