What Options? 2006 F250 (???)

I am thinking of getting a new F250 V8 Diesel, what things should I look at getting in the way of options?

I have heard the Torq shift tranny is a must have, and a few other little things here and there. Butr What I am wondering is what things do you really think you might not have missed.

I am going to buy after market wheels and put a mild lift on it so I am not worried about the FX4 package etc. I want a 4x4 as I do use it.

Anything that I should look for or not look for (aka dealer fluff)?

Thanks in advance.

Skip the Fx4. In the superdutys it is simply a skid plate (you really gonna be skiddin over rocks?), red colored boots on the shocks (second thing I swapped out for good ones), and stickers on the bed side (I peeled those off right at the dealer).

Unless you want the six speed manual (wish I had that) you have to get the 5R110 tranny.

Just get yourself an order guide and start pickin out what you want.

Must haves? Well, it depends what you like, but for me, it would have to be leather, a 6 spd, and a moonroof. I'd also get the towing mirrors, clearance lights, and the TowCommand brake controller. If you're not planning on doing any serious hauling, then make sure you get the 3.73 gears, and don't forget to get the limited slip.

ok so, I have to ask is the 6 speed the Allison based tranny? or the Torq-Shift model? I am not about the Fx4 package as you said, its a sinlge tin skid plate and some shock boots. No thanks, I will take care of that stuff myself with after market stuff anyways.

I know I want the limited slip and I need to see the gear offerings. I think its 3.73 and then the 4.11's but I am not sure, the toll that that web page has is some what limited.

So I am working with the fleet dealer now to see what we can find. Now when it all comes down to it the price I should expcet I am being told is around 40k out the door. so we will see, anything else you guys would suggest?

The 6 speed is a stick....the automatic in the diesel is the TorqShift 5r100...haven't heard anything bad about them. The GM's come with a 6 spd Allison automatic. That's about the only good thing they have going for them.

No the six speed is the mighty ZF-6 stick. Cast iron monster that is the only thing I would want to change to for my F250. The 5R110 is ok I guess though.

Not sure for 06, but the only way to get 4.10s on the older years is to have a 350 dually. Limited Slip is a must too.

Thanks for al the input gents, I think I have found my truck. 2006 f250 XLT FX4 PSD CrewCab, tow package, upfitter switches, camper package, 3.73's limited slip.

This is all the fleet guy could find in a 4 wheels drive. Out the Door price is 41200.00 minus my trade in of 15500.00 less the 8 grand I owe on it. puts me around 33700.00. That makes my payments around the same as my truck now for a 72 month loan (468.00).

Man yikes 72 months. What do you guys think? I can do it but is it bad to finance a truck fr 72 months?

Do you think that is a good price?

41 isn't bad, depending on options. And 72 months is a LOOOONG time, hope you plan on keeping that truck for a while.

it is a very long time but, you have to look at all the features you have. and that diesel should run for awhile... till you smoke a tranny or some of the other problems the 6.0 are having... ha ha don't worry, have fun and drive it like you want... short story, had a buddy that had a 04 supercrew 4x4 everything on it. well he'd be driving down the road at say 60mph and then the truck would take off on him, rev high and just go... he'd get on the braketo slow it down... took it to the dealer 6times, and finally got it lemon lawed... driving a new 06... they took what his 04 was new and what a 06 is new and made him pay the difference... say the 04 was 40k and the 06 was 41k... he payed like 1k to bump up 2 years

Yeah I have to say that I would not be getting ride of the f150 if it could tow better, nort sure there is much available to the average consumer better then the new diesles out there. i personally like the F250 better then the Durmax, so that is what I am getting.

got my truck, Man way different then my F150. This is a real truck not a truck that is turned into a family truck.

I have some questions for you guys.

Is and exhaust system one of the first mods you should do to a Diesel. The truck picks up real nice but it seems a bit chocked up. I was told that the exhaust is a great up grade to this already great package.

I have been looking for exhaust and I have seen cat back and turbo back, I have heard of people removing the Cat altogether, not sure about that but I think that is the Turbo-Bakc system.

I am torn between the MBPR and the BRP system. Just not sure what to get. Any beneifits to a Daul system or is it just for looks?
