Picked up my '06 250 SD today !!!!

First I would like to thank those of you who offered input when I was trying to decide on a gasser or diesel, and the demo model that was ~4 hours away that fit our specific needs. Well after my local dealer snubbed me on this unit, I found out where it was located, did most of the discussion over the phone, then today took the trip. Haggled for a few hours and made a deal on this very clean demo. Now the '06 F-250 SD, V10, 4.30, FX4 Crew Cab is sitting happily in my drive way. Can't wait to hitch up the toy hauler for trip and not worry about tearing up the F-150 that I traded.

Two quick questions:
What is up with the passenger side mirror? Most mirrors are noted "objects are closer than they appear", on this mirror there is no notation, but objects are closer in the mirror than actual distance when looking through the rear view and driver side mirrors. It is quite decieving looking though this mirror and seeing a vehicle very close and look back and I have plenty of room to clear them for a lane change.

For those with the V10, what rpm's are you running at when at 65 mph with no load? Mine is at 2100 to 2200, just seems sort of high for OD. On my F-150 with the 5.4, I was always below 2000 at 65 mph, more like ~1850.

Thanks again for all your input.

Congrats! And your F-150 was running so low RPM's because it probably had 3.55 gears in it. The Superduty probably has 3.73s or 4.10s.

Congratulations!! I, too, traded in my F-150 for a demo, a 2006 F-250 PSD Crew Cab Lariat. This thing is sweet, you're gonna love yours. I'm starting to haul larger trailers with building materials on them, and after hauling a 30 foot trailer with more than 4500 lbs of lumber on my F-150 and seeing that thing dragging its bumper, I decided to upgrade.

I've noticed the same thing with my passenger mirror. I've just kinda got used to it. Having those convex mirrors on the bottom, though, they're fantastic. I think they should have them on all cars!

I noticed on your post that you had 4.30, I'm thinkin' that's your gear ratio. With it being high like that, you're going to run a bit higher RPM's at 60mph than your F-150 which probably had 3.55's. My F-150 had 3.55's and I was running about 1850 RPM's at 60mph also.

I've got a quick question for you, at night, do your fuel, oil pressure, and temperature gauge lights light up at all when you turn your dash and headlights on? On mine, I can see the red needles, but I can't even make out the numbers or letters. I figured since you have an '06, I'd ask.

Ya' got any pics of the new SD? Love to see 'em.

It depends on the motor and options. I almost bought a F-250 V-10 4x4 with 3.73s.

jdpollen,
Regarding the dash lights for the gauges, I can see the numbers and letters but they are very dim with the dimmer turned all the way up.

A few quick pictures I took are in this gallery.

Congrats on the big new ride. I have the 4.10LS rears in my truck. I will look and see what kind of rpm I am turning at 65 next time I drive it.

And my guage lights are all bright.

The 4:30 with the V-10 is the perfect setup for towing.

It may not be great on gas, but it's a good trade-off.

If you really want to make that tow rig perfect, do some research on the GEAR VENDORS UNDER/OVERDRIVE unit.

The pass side mirror isn't concave like on most passenger cars/trucks that distort requiring the warning. I've noticed things bein right where they are in the side mirror. You sure it's off on yours?

But anyway I absolutly love the TT mirrors, have the flat one adjusted to the back and the bubble for the blind spot up close.

Is this only true just before dark? I ask as my guages are hard to read when the headlights are on at sunset. Once it's dark out, guages are fine.

As to RPM vs speed - with the 4.30LS gears, it about 62MPH at 2000RPM.

Oh, congratulations on the truck - enjoy - enjoy - enjoy.

larryp,
I checked the gauge lights at dusk today and I can see the letters, numbers, indicator marks, and needles just fine. It almost sounds like the back light behind the gauges is out. There are 2 different lighting sequences that I noticed that happen in a split second when the lights are turned on. In the first sequence (one milli-second) the back light comes on for the gauges, the next milli-second the lights come on for the red needles. It happens very fast, but there is a very very slight delay between the two. Flip the headlight switch on and off a few times and you can see the delay if both are operating.

As for the passenger side mirror, it will just take some getting used to how these view compared to my past vehicles. I did some camparing on all the mirrors today and they do all view the same.

ws6_guyscrew,
Pics are in my gallery.

Talking 2006 Super Duty

Congrats on your new truck! I know the feeling, because I bought one too...

Per jdpollen question above; My gauge lights (fuel, oil pressure, and temperature) are very bright.
