Exhaust on a V10

Exhaust on a V10
Okay, I'm getting irritated.
My brother has a 1999 F-250 XLT SuperCab 4x2 with a 6.8L V10.
When he bought it, it was already equipped by the previous owner with a Flowmaster 70 Series muffler for performance and improved gas mileage. However, this muffler does absolutely nothing for the sound of the truck. He wants to put exhaust on his truck to make it SOUND good. Now, we have visited every muffler shop in the county. Half of them refuse to work on a truck with a V10, and the rest warn us that it will sound HORRIBLE. They are adamant that it will sound like a hair dryer (worse than a V6).
Is this true? What can we do? Is there any way to make his V10 sound like my 5.4 with Magnaflows?
Thanks.

A few years ago, probably around the summer of 2001, I was at a local muffler shop having the stock muffler on my then 4.0 Litre SOHC Ranger swapped out with a Flowmaster 50 series. Truthfully, it really did not do a thing for that engine. However, at the same time my work was being done, an E-350 Van was in getting a catback system with twin Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I ended up chatting with the owner while we both waited for our vehicles to be finished. I walked out with him when his van was finished, and frankly, I thought the thing sounded incredible. It had a very nice deep, throaty rumble. The owner told me it sounded nothing like that before, and was very pleased. Granted, the sound is not the same as a V-8. If I had to pick a description in relation to a V-8, I would choose...busier, like more is going on. I guess this fits considering there are two more cylinders running. Kind of sounds like an F1 car, only deeper in tone. Freakin' sweet if you ask me. Anyway, best of luck on what you choose.
If I were to offer advice, have the local muffler shop cut off your current mufflers and fire it up. If you like the sound, consider that a muffler is only going to change overall volume, and/or tone. If you don't like the straight pipe sound, you probably won't like any new muffler combination.
Good Luck, and I hope you find something you like!
