Gas mileage for v10

I was thinking of upgrading from a 97 f150 4.6 to a 2000 f250 v10 for towing. If anyone has a v10 please let me know what your gas mileage is. City and highway. I don't think I want to get a diesel because I have such a short drive to work it will never get warmed up.
Thanks

Also I was going to ask about the hubs. They are turnable and say lock or auto. I thought that turnable hubs were gone in the mid 90's. Could the hubs be after market or are they factory. If they are factory do they unlock when in the auto position.
Thanks

My brother has a '99 F-250 4x2 with the V10 and he said he gets around 11 mpg. Not sure about highway...

The auto hubs will lock when the 4wd is engaged, unlock when disengaged... or you can manually lock them by turning them to the lock position.

As far as V10 milage question, I get 11-12 around town and in mixed driving, and around 14 mpg highway.

Yes, these hubs are included with the optional electric shift on the fly trucks. When turned to auto, a vacuum pulse locks and unlocks the hubs according to when the transfer case is in 4x4 or not. If the vacuum system fails, you can lock manually.

Just one of the little details on these trucks that make the superduty badge more than just a name.

Thanks for the info. My 97 4.6 only gets 15-16 mpg so upgrading to the v10 is not as big of a difference as I thought. Is there any issues I should be looking for on a 2000 f250 crew cab short box v10. It seems to be in great shape. Its all black which I am not sure I like but it is very glossy. Chrome accessories would look nice. It has 107000 miles and they are asking 13,995.
The receiver hitch has never been used but it has a fifth wheel ball in the box. I may have a transmission shop check out the tranny but it seems fine.

I get 10-11 in the summer time, and 7-8 in the winter time in my 2000 F250. If I get 11mpg, I'm a happy camper. Right now I'm getting about 150-170 miles to a fill up.

Well I bought the 2000 V-10 yesterday. It was a 140 mile drive to get back home. I checked the gas mileage and it was 14.1 MPG. I was very happy. The thing that surprised me is that is exactly what the overhead computer said my mileage was. I had heard that these mileage computers were way off. My 97 4.6 would shift down on almost every hill but the V10 only shifted down on the really long hills. I hope this truck is going to be as reliable as the 97 f150 that I had for 9 years. Then only bad thing is that none of the door lock actuators work. But I know the trick to fix them. Thanks for all your replies.
