What Diesel Engine Is the Best

7.3 hasn't been put in a Ford since early '03. The 7.3 had more than it's fair share of problem across the years it was made. The ones still out there running are likely the good ones.
6.0 same deal. I wish I could find the list, but the list I saw showed the 7.3 with almost double the bulletins out that the 6.0 at that time. 6.4 has had early issues but it's still too early to tell.
A friend just traded a '03 Cummins for an '07 with the 6.7. The '03 was a bull, but he says the 6.7 kicks it's @$$ all over the place. It's got the new tranny also.
Close you're eyes and throw the dart.

Ummm they just are. Torqshift is just a FORD only thing and the Ally has been in many other applications than the Torqshift so I would go with the general concensus and go with the Ally.

I think you'll find that most people that have experience with both will give the Torqueshift the nod. The Allison is a good tranny, but I've heard more people that I know that have them, either complain about them or have problems. The name is what does it. And I don't believe the tranny is the exact tranny used in other applications.
Both good, but TS has an edge.
And no, there is now real problems with them. BTW, when running my tuner, mine will definitely bark both rear wheels in 2nd and sometimes 3rd, easily. It's stock of course. It's solid as can be.

The Allison tranmission. A guy at work had one in his 2003 Chebby 3500 Dmax Dually. 100% stock, and the damn thing would still go into limp mode if he was pulling his huge trailer up a hill and would hit the go pedal. Dealer said it was normal and that the transmission was just sensing that it was getting too much torque. That and the fact that within 40K miles, the truck was on its third set of injectors and second turbos, made him sell it and buy a Dudge Mega cab. He said one way or another, he's making sure that his transmission goes out before the warranty is up..
And FamilyRide, how do you like your Revos?

Hello all,
PSD can indeed get 20+ MPG for highway driving the trick is to keep your RPM's down around the 1800 or less range. That means accepting 63-65 mph as your max cruising speed. My wife's truck is a 97 PSD Crew Cab with a short bed, and Nerf bars, so the truck is packing some extra weight.
We just completed a road trip from Indiana to Alabama and back again this weekend, and had 22 MPG the whole way.
Now, the city MPG is around 16-18.
The things I do to the truck:
I use "V8 Engine restore" in the crank case
Lucas injector cleaner
Changed the air filter housing from stock to a larger cone filter. (down side is it is sucking in hot engine air... perhaps I should try to make a cold air case?)
Change the oil religiously at 3000 miles or three months.
Change the transmission filter annually.
****THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT****
We drive around town and on the freeway trying to keep the RPM's around 1500-1800. Yes it means that grandma in a chevette is beating you, but I pay 1/3 less for gas annually than all of you lead foots.
