Terrible BUMP Steer, man this sucks!

So I was driving my truck recently and I notice that it has developed a heck of a bump steering issue. Has anyone else notice that just about over any bump the steering wheel tends to move around a lot, I mean a bit more then just a vibration in the steering wheel, we are talking movement of one or two inches.

I think when your driving down the freeway and you hit a road transition you should notice it all that much, but maybe I am just paying more attention now then before.

Just wondering if there is much that can be done about it. I need to take a look and see if there is a steering stabilizer stock on these things. hmmm.

Any thoughts gents?

My F150 does it too. However, my Dakota doesn't. It's freaky if you tell me...

I think it might have to do with the modern steering rack systems. As everyone wants the tightest possible turning radius. To me it's pointless... because it's a truck. Besides, I haven't found that much use for a tight turning radius, except for messing around in parking lots... but even then, if you know how to drive, you shouldn't have to worry about this.

Tighter turning radius' are for cars... trucks are meant to be turned wider.

I had the same issues, but once I swapped out the crummy stock steering stabilizer with a real Rancho, the bump steer was no longer an issue.

yes it is either going to be your trac bar bushings or your steering stabilizer

Unless it has alot of miles it sounds more like the stablizer than bushings...mine jounces a little bit, but it's tolerable..better than my old 73 Jeep

do you have a lift and/or oversized tires, if so then you need to upgrade the steering stabilizer, or add another one

I have the same problem but haven't fixed it yet.

This is a known problem and there is a TSB on it. I had mine fixed by Ford. They replacd the steering stabilizer, balanced the tires and realigned the truck. "FREE"

really what dealer was that and do you have the tech builitin on this, I would like to take it with me to the local dealer. As I am not thinking that this is a normal thing to have the truck move this much under bumps. I am going to look into a stablizer but man this is silly. The wife hates to drive the truck its so bad.
