Diesel_Bryce, Thank you for your reply. With all the postings I have received, I have come to the conclusion that the V10 is the only way to go. I will probably get the 4.10 axle as I think the 4.30 will not be needed. I appreciate your honesty as a Ford dealer and a fellow canadian. I wish your dealership was a little closer, I'd buy one from you in a minute. Unfortunately, I live half a continent away in the Toronto area of Ontario.

We are going to buy an Ultra Lite 5th and the one we like is the Rockwood 8280SS with a GVWR of 7898 lbs. I have an aluminum boat that will sit on top of the truck with most of my fishing gear in the trailer. I use a 1 man boat loader that will fit over the nose of the truck from a company in Kelona B.C. at www.loadit.com

Thank you again.

I have a 2006 F-250 Lariat Crew Cab 4x2 with the 5.4 3v v8. The truck has plenty of power for what I use it for, I don't pull a whole lot, though I did pull a 16 ft. car trailer with a 48 pickup on it and it did ok, but it could have used more power. I am not disappointed with my engine, but if I were buying again I would get a v10 or a diesel. THE FUEL MILEAGE IS HORRIBLE IN MY 5.4. I have figured up almost every tank of gas and I get about 7-9 city and 11-13 highway. The digital display in the truck says even less! If I were pulling a 5th wheel I would NOT get a 5.4 The v10 is your best shot. But, instead of buying a brand new 4x2 v10, you could buy a used 4x4 diesel for about the same price.

Even a 4X4 used 3V V10 with the 4:30's would be just as good a deal as the diesel version for the amount of lbs you're towin'. If no off-roadin' the 4X2 V10 would be THE deal...

As always, just my opinion...ha ha

You're not even old enough to drive.

I would not go that route with a 5.4 i would go after a 7.3 diesel you can find one in your price range if you look long enough the 5.4 is underpowered as said before. Ive looked at 5.4s my self plus the diesel will give you better fuel milage so you will save money there just a thought tho.
