Help! Dont know what to do!

Ok so heres the deal I have a 99L with 94,000 miles on it. Body is in great shape, Ive never been to the track with it or ran it crazy. I guess what Im sayin is that its in good condition for a 99. Well one of the guys at work wants to trade me an 03 250 King Ranch (6.0L) lifted and on 35s with 2500 on a brand new motor, b/c the old one blew. Do you think that this is a wise move or I should just stick with the L? Thank you all for your input! -Brutis

Sounds like he "overloaded" it one too many times... I wouldn't be surprised if the frame wasn't cracked either... or if the rear end is shot too. If he's been through an engine, I would systematically suspect that his rear end needs to be replaced if he's been hard on the truck. I'd assume hard enough to blow a diesel engine. What was he using it for? If you say pulling competitions, I'd stay far, far, far away from it.

Oh no he didnt drive it hard at all. I dont even think its been through the woods yet. There is no visible scratchs on the paint. Ive heard that the 6.0s have had injector/blown motor problems and from what I gather this was just another "bad egg" motor.

Keep in mind that the 03 6.0 trucks were the most problematic ones out there. How old is the new engine? Its most likely not an 03/04 engine, but the trans was also new with the engine. They had a few issues the first year or two as well. I wouldn't trade a known good running truck for an 03 6.0L truck, too risky.

he ordered the motor from ford and had it put in in july/august. right now its got 2500 mi on it. thanks for all the input i had heard the 6.0 was a bad motor. i figure that if the injectors go out on it, that would be the same as having to repace the s/c in the L which is gonna happen in the next 20-30,000 miles

The 6.0 isn't necessarily a bad motor, but in 03 they had alot of growing pains due to being rushed into production. There are good engines out there, but it can be a crap shoot if you get a good one.

The HUEI injectors for the 6.0L are about $250 for a stock one. A full set is gonna be in the $2000 neighborhood plus installation. You can do them yourself, but you need to be careful because you can easily hydrolock your engine.
