Good, it will keep those freaky rich people from owning one because they'd need to learn something. Oh, forbid I make $500,000 a year and I learn something new... nah, I'll take it easy and get a F450 and use my regular license.

You sure? Daughter was in the Florida Keys last summer ('06') and the hotel she stayed at rented them by the hour to hotel customer at some outrageous price. Also, according to TN, the only time you need a CDL is when you are hauling "commercial".

Any truck over a certain GVWR requires a CDL. If it's a 26,000 lbs or less GVWR, then it does not require a CDL. If it is 26,001 lbs or more GVWR, then it does require a CDL. It just depends on the weight rating of the particular truck that you buy.

The F-650/F-750 is available with 26,000 GVWR, 30,000 GVWR, or 33,000 GVW to fills all the gaps in the complete Super Duty line-up.
This means that the only one that does not require a CDL is the 26,000 GVWR model. I guess this truck is rated lower just to get under the CDL requirement. This is much like the F250 compared to the F350. Since some states impose extra charges on the F350 trucks, ford makes the F250 to get around those extra charges, since the only difference between the F250 and F350 is the 1" difference in the size of the rear blocks.
