Aftermarket exhaust and air filter. You do that and it will put out that beautiful black smoke

Sell the Diablo, the install a selectable tuner (DP, Edge, Etc), along with GAUGES!!!, intake (no K&N), and an exhaust. At the very least, install gauges with your tuner. Did I mention gauges?

Because Diablo sucks, thats why. I wouldn't run it, especially on an 01-03 truck since you have the weaker connecting rods. That is unless you like the idea of sending a rod out the side of the block. Pure and simple Jody at DP-tuner has invested the time and money in cylinder pressure testing, Diablo hasn't. Thats critical for trucks with PMRs like yours. An added feature of a flip chip over a programmer is that you can change your programs on the fly instead of having to stop and reprogram the thing.

Until you get your gauges do yourself a favor and take the programmer out of the truck. Diablo has made a reputation for high EGTs.

Stay away from K&N because it uses a packed gauze for filtering media. On a naturally aspirated engine its no big deal because you don't have high intake velocities and flow rates. On a turbo engine you're pulling in alot more air and alot faster. This tends to pull dirt particles through the filter. Hold up a K&N filter through the light and you'll see all kinds of pin holes in it. A good paper filter (Napa 6637) or cloth filter (Green 2169) is the way to go. The Ford AIS filter is a good option as well as its the best filtering system out there, but its more expensive.

Air filters are fine but again, i hate to be a spoiler, according to Ford and sources like thedieselstop.com the best filter for the 6.0 is the stock filter. The K&N's seem to let too much debris through, just keep an eye on it.

These 6.0's are very temperamental and sensitive. 04's were bad, 05's not so bad and 06's are hit and miss.,

Yeah, sell it on eBay. And whatever exhaust you want. Cheapest prices I've found are at Farm Boys Diesel. Guy's name is Gus. Tell him Zach sent you.

Ya I will agree, sell the Diablo and get a XCal II with custom tunes. You will get much more power from it, and have the option of changing tunes when you want, like a tow tune to a street tune say.

And your stock air filter and box is just as good. About the only thing it helps on is giving the engine and exhaust a whistle, which a lot of people like. One thing you can do to help airflow is to make the air intake hole behind the grill bigger.

And most people go with MBRP and are very happy with it, especially for the price.

FYI, the stock box being the better choice only applies to the 6.0L. The 7.3L which the OP has is a very crappy box. The SCT is the ticket for a 6.0L, but there are better options for a 7.3L. I don't know that they came out with a switch on the fly option for the 7.3L for it. The 7.3L uses pretty old technology and doesn't have near the features the 6.0L gadgets get.
