Tradin' my F150 for an 02 F250 7.3

It's a black extended cab with 80,000 miles. I'll get some pictures of it sometime next week when the trade is complete. I am keepin' my 38's and will be puttin' them on the F250 here in a couple months when I lift it.

Zaairman anything I should know about the 7.3? What are some good power mods for it?

I'm so excited. It's gonna be sad to see my F150 go though.

Being an 02 be VERY careful about what chip you chose. You've got the weaker PMRs (powdered metal rods) in there. Too much timing on the chip can send a rod through the side of the block. If you run propane, NOS, or water/meth injection you can do the same. All of the above create cylinder pressures that are too high. You will also need a set of gauges prior to putting any kind of chip on the truck. Pyro, mounted preturbo, boost, and trans temp if its an auto. A good 4" turbo back exhaust (no performance benefit larger than 4", just makes it louder) and good intake (avoid K&N) will also help the truck run better. For your chip selection avoid any modules or programmers. They all (with the exception of SCT) use off the shelf programming which sucks. The cost of a custom written 4pos flip chip is the same cost or less and will allow you to change programs on the fly. When I tow with my truck through the mountains I'll turn back to the 40hp tow setting, but when I'm on the flats or in rolling terrain I'll bump it up to 80hp econo for a little more power. I don't have to stop and reflash the PCM to do it, just turn a dial.

If you're going to be on a tight budget there are alot of small mods that are either free or almost free that are good to do until you get the money together for the big stuff.

Congratulations on getting a 7.3, those engines will run FOREVER if you take care of it right, and probably even if you don't. Just a really reliable, durable motor. Honestly the first upgrade I would get is a cold air intake, I've drove my dads truck a few times and it seems like it just needs more air to the turbo to spool up faster. I dont know much about chips and programmers, so I'll leave that advice to others on here.

Hmmm... Just a few quick things. If one day it won't start and you're not getting a wait to start light, you blew fuse #30 and need to unplug your fuel bowl heater. Also, keep a spare Cam Position Sensor and a deep 10mm socket and wrench in your glove box.

Power? Depends what type of budget you're on. At the very least, straight pipe it. Let me know what exactly you want info on... My exhaust isn't stainless, cause I'm on a budget, and it was the only 4" down pipe 5" exhaust with NO MUFFLER (didn't want to buy a delete pipe extra). My chip is an Edge Juice with Attitude but I'll be upgrading to the DP Tuner soon. Thinking I'll get the 80 tow, 80 econo, and a few more extreme tunes... (race, smoke, etc).

So, how bout some details on the truck? XLT? Automatic?

XLT, Auto, 4X4, black interior, custom hood

It's got a small amount of lift and 35's on 17's but I am gonna take them off and put my Mickey Thompsons on. Gotta get some new rims though.

Here are some pictures of the truck I found on the dealer's website.

Nerf bars and pinstriping are definately comin' off and I'm not too crazy about the hood either.

Looks like it could use a long day of paint care to get rid of the swirls and such..........but thats to be expected with a used black vehicle

Is this a ford dealer or one of those used car lots? If its one of the used car lots really look it over good because I had some bad experiences with places like them. Good luck with it.

Cap'n, we need to talk. If you're ditching the nerf bars and wheels, um, DIBS!

It's at a used car dealership but they always have well taken care of vehicles on their lot. They also told me they would try to buff out as many scratches as they could before I take it home.
