Lightbulb what Air Intake do you have

What is the deal with a K&N filter why does it get such negative feedback?

I was just curious at what kinda of air intake you other PSD owners ran on your rig and what you guys thought about them.

Mine has a brute force dry intake any of you dudes ever herd any thing on those.

PEACE

The gasser V8 / V10 does fine with a K&N air system or stock replacement filter.

However, I have read that the turbos in the diesels need even more clean air than the K&N provides therefore causing premature wear. Is this true?...I don't know, I am sure the diesel folks will chime in on this one.

Right now I'm running the stock intake (it's been Zoodad'd), but soon I'll be getting the AFE Pro Stage 2.

I had a K&N on my 7.3 and I don't recommend it. Anything else seems ok, AFE stage 2 is probably one of the best I believe. But if you have a 6.0, I'd leave the stock air filter assembly and do the "zoodad" mod. I'm sure Zaairman will chime in and explain to you what it is.

The K&N filter is bad on a turbo diesel because of the higher air velocities. It uses a packed gauze media and whn you start pulling that much air that fast through it it will basically force dirt particles right through the filter. This then dusts the engine requiring machine work to the block.

The zoodad mod originated on thedieselstop by member zoodad. On the 99.5-03 7.3L intake you will see an air intake line from the filter box to right behind the grill. There is a flap behind the grill in this area that cuts off air supply. What you do is cut a hole in this flap the size of the line so air has a direct path into the intake. It basically creates a "ram air" effect.

Just like what 7.3 said... The tube from your air filter box will run towards the front of the truck. After the tube stops, there will only be a 2" hole for the air to get through. Take a dremel and open that biatch up to the size of the intake tube. When I was done I covered the hole with left over screen (yes the window kind) by using some spare screws we had laying around.

Stock filter and housing here...

I have heard of too many of the 08's throwing codes after going to an AFE or other intake. I've just never seen the point in doing a mod that can potentially do more harm than good. On a side note, I like to get zoodad'd every now and then myself!
