5.4 or 6.8 ?

I almost ****
when I saw what the diesel engine cost.

Would the 6.8L V-10 be the way to go, or is the 5.4 V-8 be
adequate without feeling like a slug?

It all depends on what you will be using the truck for, a friend of mine just picked up a 2008 F-250 w/5.4, he will just be using it to plow, so I guess he will be ok.........

6.8. The 5.4 can barely move that truck out of its own way.

If you plan on doing any towing and/or heavy hauling, go with the 6.8. Yeah it may use a little more gas than the 5.4, but it will get up and go when you need it too.

6.8 all the way. 5.4 isn't enough for a three-quarter or one-ton truck. I'd buy a V-10 if I was in the market for a new truck.

i had a 6.8 and 3.73 gears (i wanted and should have swapped to 4.10's) in my old F-250 and I could get upwards of 15-16mpg on the highway if I left the cruise alone. the 5.4's I drove were gutless and the wife hated the noise/smell of diesels and it towed just fine

Triton V10

The Triton V10 is probably the best engine Ford makes , for that matter any of the big 3. Granted it has only been around 10 years and other than the spark plugs occasionally blowing out on the 97-03 models just like the 5.4's. The engine with 10 cylinders fires every 72 degrees instead of every 90 degrees like a V8, which means a smoother running engine. So it doesn't get 35 mpg, your not buying a Focus, your buying a 250/350 TRUCK with a rearend and tires that weight more than a Focus engine! A bit of information a lot of folks forget, is how many RV shops can work on a Triton V10 if something happens "out of town". These engines are in more RV's than any other engine, says something about reliability. The only reason I know all this, just ordered a 350 with a V10.

In the 2008's, the 6.4l is quieter than the V10. New diesel engines don't sound like old diesel engines. My dad couldn't believe that mine was a diesel until I popped the hood and showed him the beast.

Are you sure about that. Neighbor has the new 6.4L and it isn't quieter than my 06 V10. Especially when we get on the throttle. Ah yes...another debating point.

The new new sound deadening on the latest versions are a bit better however and my uncle's 08 V10 is a bit quieter in the cab than my 06...and yes, regarding diesel engine noise - the 6.4L is a great improvement over the 6.0L

Just going by the Diesel Power article that compared the two. At idle the 6.4l was a little louder, but at 60 MPH, the diesel was quieter. And yes, I was referring to inside the cab.

mine was back in '01, I saw an '08 F-250 Harley Truck at Ford yesterday, that thing is soooooooooooooo nice, if it came with a 6 speed i'dbe interested, and the 6.4 is way quieter than the 'ole 7.3's I've had

I like my 6.0. If you don't like the noise move or get run over.

Drove 2,000 miles with wife and 3 kids pulling a full 16foot u-hual and absolutely no complaints.

If you want quiet by electric!!! Those squash even easier.
