Compass keeps going into calibration mode

Hi everyone,
This is my first post so bear with me, I have a 2004 F-250 Superduty 6.0 Diesel Lariat and the compass keeps going into the calibration mode. I have followed all the instructions in the manual and it makes no difference, it seems to work fine after the initial calibration and then about 10-20 minutes later the cal light will come on!! Sometimes the compass direction will dissapear alltogether and the cal light is all you see. Is there a sensor somewhere that could be dirty?? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Superduty41.

Do you have any aftermarket electronic devices in your truck? Such as a radar detector, CB, Ham radio, GPS, older cell phone, etc...? As far as I know, these in mirror compasses work by detecting the slight electro-magnetic field of the north pole. When the calibration is underway, usually you have to drive around in complete circles in a parking lot somewhere while the compass sensor "locates" true north. If you have something in the truck the emits a similar magnetic field as true north, it could easily interfere with what the compass sensor detects. When it gets conflicting readings, it probably goes in to cal mode. Turn off any aftermarket stuff and see if this fixes your problem. If not, you may actually have a bad sensor. It is also possible you live near something that creates the issue, such has high-voltage power lines or power plant.
