Exclamation 2008 Ford F250 CHECK ENGINE LIGHT

I own a 2008 Forf F250 and it has 4000 miles on it and the Check Engine light has turned on twice, and the 2nd time I had a big cloud of smoke coming out the exhaust. Before anyone asks there is no chip in the truck. The only thing I did is lift the truck. Has anyone else had this problem or heard of it?

What's the code? Pretty sure it's under warranty.

2008 Check engine

Heres the thing I took the truck in one time already and when I took it in they said there were no codes and the the check engine light was off. This is the 2nd time now and I will be taking it in on Monday Dec 31 because the light is on and this time when I hit the gas I had a big cloud of smoke come out of the exhaust. I think it was white.

You probably dropped an injector. It sounds like your dealership doesn't have a competant diesel tech. I suggest finding a better dealer to go to. Thats the reason I wouldn't take my truck to the Ford dealer 3mi from my place and drove 30mi to the next dealer.

2008 check engine light

I dont think I dropped an injector because the smoke went away and the truck drove finr after that. What I am finding out from looking at other people complaints like mine it sounds like it could be a bad cam shaft sensor or the regin sensor is sticking. I will post here again after I take it to thedealer. But Powerstroke73 I totally understand about the techs. I think our local Ford are idiots and if they cant figure out tomorrow I will take it to a dealer that is about 50 miles away that I know will be able to figure it out.

Ford F250 Check engine light

I found out yesterday the reason my truck had the check engine light on is because I put an aftermarket Air filter system on the truck. I had an AFE, but the dealer said to get rid of the code to change it back so I did.
The code was a P2002 Which says if you an aftermarket modifications like a chip or air filter the truck will send this code because MAF& the EGR sensors will give out false readings

If you live in Canada, or any other cold region, a diesel will still blow out white smoke because the exhaust system hasn't reached operating temps. I see that all the time around here, especially when the temps really dip down cold. Water is a by-product of combustion... of any type of fuel really. What you are seeing is atomized water or steam. It's tendency to go away on a diesel is much more sooner because of the higher Exhaust Gas Temps.

The techs are sometimes stupid, ignorant people at *certain* stealerships.

A P2002 has nothing to do with the air filter...

P2002 - Particulate Trap Efficiency Below Threshold

It has something to do with the Diesel Particulate Filter... not an air filter!

Besides, when you reattach the MAF sensor back to the new aftermarket airfilter, it will adjust accordingly. In fact, I really don't see what difference it would have on it, besides being a little cooler.

Let me ask you this... did you disconnect both batteries and wait like 30 minutes and reconnect them to reset the PCM after installing the aftermarket intake?!

The reason I am asking this is merely because a lot of people recommend this because the PCM remembers certain variables, and if they don't jive, it will throw a code when you are running your truck with the new intake.

Personally, I believe the techs are hoodwinking you.
