05 6.0L, more injector problems

I just got a call from my parents who are on thier way to florida for 2 months that dads truck (05 F350 SC, DRW, FX4, 6.0L with 34000miles) just lost 2 more injectors. The same thing happened last year in their way to Texas for a few months, that time they ended up having to get 4 injectors replaced, this time the dealership that the truck is at is saying 2 need to be replaced. Dad is so pissed off right now that he said they are turning around and coming home, and that he is getting rid of the truck. Said that he is going to look a either Cummins or a Duramax once he is back, but the 6.0L is not going to be his anymore.

That's too bad...I have a friend who hasn't had a problem w/ his and he has 65k on his 05 PSD. Probs can exsist in ANY motor, but your situation is extreme. Your Dad may want to look over any 'lemon' laws, and negotiate for a different PSD - they can (and have been) be good, reliable engines..especially for hauling/towing heavy loads (12k+) for many miles.

Anyway, if you really don't need an extra 100+lbs extra torque the 05+ 3V V10 is pretty bulletproof in the reliability department. If you get the 4:30 rear (I think that the DRW comes with that on the V10) it has the power to pull almost anything as the 6.0 PSD.

The argument is endless between what's best for this and that between the diesel and gassers. Both have pros and cons...

I can't comment on the Duramax...no knowledge.

Good luck, it will work out!

Just a quick question, are the injectors covered under the 5yr/100,000 mile warranty?

Yes. And see if you can talk your dad into a new 6.4. They're better than the new 6.7 Cummins IMO.

Get used to injectors going south on the 6.0's. Ive changed a dump truck load of them at the dealer I work at. Ive also had a few 6.4's apart too recently. As for the duramax, I hear they have problems that strand the customers too, electrical and sensor issues as well as injectors. You'll just be trading one type of problem for another.

Dad got back in town on tuesday night with the truck and camper. He is not sure on what he is going to do, but he said that he is kicking himself for trading his 99 7.3L in on this 05. Dad said that he is not going to rush into anything and since he is back home will take some time to crunch some numbers and figure out what is the best route for him. Here are the options that he has told me about so far.

Trade the 05 in for a GMC 3500 Duramax (already got a price on an 08 with LT3 package)
Trade the 05 for a 05 or earlier Dodge 3500 with 5.9L Cummins
Trade the 05 for a 05+ F350 with 3V10
Keep the 05 and swap a 5.9L Cummins in place of the the 6.0L. He contacted fordcummins.com about this and already got a price for them to supply a rebuilt 5.9L-12V with 325hp and to do the install.

He said that he loves the truck, the looks, the interior, the ride, but just hates the 6.0L.

Dad was told that it won't bolt right up, but they are working on some adapter plates for it. I guess they have an 04 in the shop right now that they are useing as a test truck. I think that a 5.9L/Torqshift would be a great combo also. I really hope that is the option that dad goes with, 5.9L-12V's are basically bullet proof unless you go totally nuts with mods, plus the old 12V's are the best sounding generation of the 5.9's IMO.
