I have an '03 Lariat and when I shut the ignition off the dome lights come on. Very obnoxious, and not at all good for stealth purposes. Is there some way to disable this "feature"?

you can kill the truck and still have it in the "on" position.

other then that there is no easy way unless you want to rewire several things in your truck

I still want dome lights when I need them though. I suppose I can put a switch in if I must.

I know you can shut the engine off without turning the key all the way to the off position, but I would like to be able to shut it off and pull the key without the lights coming on, just like in the old days.

 

Funny thing about this deal is that P71 (Police) Crown Victorias have this feature built in. On the passenger side, sort of below/behind the glove box is a blue connector...just a single wire. All you have to do is disconnect the wire, disconnect the battery on the car and reconnect the battery and you can make it work that way. I have never looked in any other Ford so I have no clue if it exists in the trucks, but its worth a look.
