However, start towing and things change. The 5.4 will quickly drop in to the single digits for mpg's...where as the diesel should stay in the very low teens unless loaded to absolute maximum capacity.
I guess my personal thoughts on an answer to you question would be:
Unloaded: 13ish on the 6.4, 10-12 on the 5.4.
Towing: 10-12ish on the 64, 4-8 on the 5.4.
One more thing...you will know if you are towing with the 5.4. It is barely adequate for the 3/4 to 1 ton trucks unloaded as it is. Add 8,000lbs behind it and you will be horribly disappointed.
The diesel will not break a sweat with anything under 10,000lbs.
Just my two cents,

Wasn't worth the price of the diesel to me. I have a 250 with the 5.4L(4x4, king cab, 2 inch lift) I tow tractors and bobcats and what not on a daily basis with mine and it does great. I average around 13.2 mpg around town not towing and around 11 mpg towing my 6,000 pound bobcat with my 7 ton hudson trailer. Everyone told me not to get the 5.4L. But after 10,000 miles im very very happy with it. Gas is cheaper, The gas engine is way cheaper, The gas is way easier to maintain. I have a dumptruck with a detroit to haul anything that my 250 can't.
